What I find fascinating isn't simply that this study connects the wandering poles with the survival of humans vs the extinction of Neanderthals - but also for something it doesn't mention, which is the sudden appearance of cave art around the same time. It makes me wonder if there wasn't a change in world beliefs that would have accompanied the onset of constant auroras at the time, which caused early humans to think on new ways of expressing their place in the world.
