As some may know Billie Piper has said she will be leaving Doctor Who at some point in the second series. David Tennant will be the new Doctor but the role of the assistant is still open.

Does anyone here on the forums have a suitable replacement?

Bring back K9!

but I could care less about Dr Who I'm sad to say. By the time I was old enough to watch it, it was camp & rubbish and now it still rubbish but has lost the camp value.

As Chris Evans girlfriend? Tough question. Perhaps the more mature and reserved Gerri Halliwell.

Billie Piper leaving Doctor Who is nothing more than a rumour at the moment but if anyone is to replace her then I hope it is an unknown actress. As soon as the rumour started that she was leaving there was a queue of former pop stars/girl band members lining up in the tabloid press to say how much they would like to take over the role  . It was so obvious that they were only interested in it because the show is such a hit and would boost their flagging careers!

If the rumour is true and Billie does go then the next series will be a bit strange. A new Doctor and a new companion before its even got started. I hope it doesn't turn into a mess.

This is what I read before posting, since I got it off the doctor who website news I thought it was actually true, but since I believe nothing from the press, I don't believe this, however I don't want that to stop you reading it...

Will Rose be back next season? 23 May 2005
Following reports in the national press today regarding Billie Piper's future with Doctor Who, we've made some phone calls and discovered the current situation.

"Billie Piper will return for the second series of Doctor Who," says our contact in Publicity. "It has not been confirmed how many episodes she will be in. We are awaiting storylines and scripts."

I do have news for those awaiting the final episode next saturday as well...

Bonus BBC1 documentary from the Confidential team. 08 June 2005
The Doctor Who Confidential team have created an extra documentary which will preceed The Parting of the Ways at 6.15pm on Saturday 18 June. According to the press release:

"From a council estate to a battle in space, Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide, will take us behind the scenes of the new series, to talk to cast and crew and celebrate all the triumphs and tears, smiles and trials shared between the Doctor, Rose and millions of fans, who have turned on to see a new Who at his alien best. The Ultimate Guide is just what the Doctor ordered."

Does it HONESTLY matter? I don't really like Billie Piper... She's blonde. SHE BROKE UP WITH RICH FROM 5IVE. HOW DARE SHE. She isn't really a good actress... She was good enough for what she was asked, but I found it difficult at times to figure out whether she was crying or laughing... I'm not being mean, but they could find someone who can act instead of choosing someone who has mostly their looks to rely on.

Well I don't know about suitable but I'd like to!

I think it might be a bit more interesting for the doctor to have a more mature companion. Perhaps a contemporary. Failing that, considering how young and effeminate the new doctor looks, an older person might be interesting. Especially with the irony that could arise, of people assuming the companion is the person in charge! :D (You'd still need an atractive young female companion for the dads, though! ;-)

This is a tough one. I'm certain they will pick someone in her early to mid 20's. I'm also fairly certain they will pick someone who's very attractive.

As for Billie leaving or not, I think she will around the middle of the second season.

and confirmed by David Tennant.

shame! cos i am not really that impressed by her. she was ok, but nothing special. *shrug* i can live with or without her, i just thought if she went, someone really good might replace her!

No one. Rose is the new series of Doctor Who. The soul of it. No Rose: no protaganist, no point.

My two cents.

But if they tried to replace the character of Rose, who everyone has been identifying with since the beginning - especially the people haven't watched Dr. Who before, and let's be fair, he's just a sidekick - it would be difficult to create another protaganist as sympathetic.

Just thought I might post this news release from the BBC to confirm she is indeed leaving :-

Billie Piper has quit her role as "Doctor Who" sidekick Rose Tyler just after the second season of the series started reports the BBC.

The 23-year-old star told producers she did not want to become typecast as they begged her to stay for a third series of the hit show. BBC chiefs have now launched a secret bid to find her replacement.

The choice mirrors Christopher Eccleston's decision to quit his role as the Doctor before the first series even went out (Eccleston played the title role for the 12-episode first season run). Piper did stay on to film the second season with new Time Lord David Tennant and a Christmas special.

A source says: "The BBC are auditioning other girls to take over. They want to have the next actress all lined up when they formally announce Billie's departure. They are quite miffed about her decision. The casting people have been conducting secret auditions with a small number of actresses and keeping it very, very quiet. They are after a relative newcomer so this is the role which puts her in the public eye".

Meanwhile, the BBC has revealed the new look for the Doctor's old foe 'The Cybermen' who are the key bad guys for the second season.

My two penneth worth is I think that David Tennant is in fact a better Doctor than Mr Eccleston and Billie won't be too much of a loss - perhaps they'll get someone who can act to replace her.
