Book Hauls!

My package from amazon arrived today, but there are problems with my order from play.

I gave them my current address as my billing adress when I had only given a notice of change of address to my bank the day before, so I got an email from play, asking me to correct my billing address. I did so and then I got an email from them about an additional security check, saying that I had to call them, but trying their international phone number several times, both yesterday and today, all I get is a message telling me that this service is unavaliable right now. If they don't hear from me within 2 weeks, they will cancel my order.

Does anyone else in here have experience with this kind of thing?

When I changed my card details I was requested to call as well, I think it's just for security reasons, like, they need to hear from you. On the phone they would just double check your billing address and that's all. I never encountered any problems with their phone number. May be you have to keep trying, or, if still not available send an enquiry from the help desk (on the order detail page).

The only problem I had was lost shipment, in that case you can claim - also via help desk - after 21 days, they'll guaranteed to send you a replacement.

A member posted another bookshop's link, looks quite good too:

Now I finally got through. I do hope it will get sorted out then, so the birthday present can arrive on time.

Here's irony for you, though: I just popped by Vibes & Scribes, not looking for anything in particularly and can you guess what I saw there? God Bless You, Mr. RoseWater at about the same price as I had found it at online. It's just so rarely that I see books shops having his books in, but they had a few titles of his. Yeah, I bought it.

I also bought Join Me by Danny Wallace. It says that it's a true story, but I'm not entirely convinced. It looks interesting, though.

Just added few new titles to my Authur C. Clarke collection :)

Finally got around to buying 'A Game of Thrones' by G.R.R. Martin and also bought 'American Gods' by Neil Gaiman and a book called 'Glasshouse' by Charles Stross

Heh I know what you're referring to. While Ms. Kostova is entertaining with her historical details but the adventure part is sometimes too Nancy Drew-esque. SHe also has a tendency to tip her hand all too soon and the spook bits are too predictable. I've dropped the book a bit (too busy at work atm and I tend to surf the web a while or watch movies after I reach home late :D)

I was sorely tempted to either fling the book across the room when I got to the end or to do some grievous bodily harm to the nearest available person. Since there was no one about, I settled for reading the end of the book 3 times just to make sure I'd not missed anything, such as a whole chunk of pages. Then I put the book right at the back of a shelf in the tallest closet and refused to acknowledge it's presence. Very Nancy Drew-ish and extremely abrupt. As if someone tapped her on the shoulder and said .. you need to end ... NOW. But it was amazing for historical detail and a picture of life at the time.

No, No...I didn't really rob any banks, you know you can trust me! Preciousssssss *DROOL* *SIGH* *MUWHAHHAHA*.....:D:D

Hey I've just finished Glasshouse, it's up for this year's Hugo Awards for which I have a vote hence my reason for reading it. It's quite good actually if a bit convoluted and technical at times. Gaiman and Martin are both A Grade writers so you should be in for a treat!

Two Danielewskies... And both hardcovers...

Yes indeed. I picked it up when I lived in Wolvo, but then opted for Wry Martinis by Chris Buckley (Buckley being an author I had read lots of before). MZD Looked intruiging, still does. Finally got around buying it now and picked up Revolutions with it, too.

Second hand...

The Second Chronicles Of Thomas Covenant - Stephen Donaldson
The Essential Clive Barker Collected Fiction
Dragons Of Light (Incl. GRRM's Ice Dragon) Edited By Orson Scott Card

And.....

Japan Lonely Planet Guide
The First Chronicles Of Thomas Covenant - Stephen Donaldson

GOLLUM ... tell me how you go with Thomas Covenant. I stopped reading after the first one because of how I felt about the character. It's got nothing to do with the plot or the style of writing. It's just an aversion to the character himself.

Clive Barker's fiction is intriguing. It wanders all over the place and takes a peek at the oddest things.

Now I finally got through. I do hope it will get sorted out then, so the birthday present can arrive on time.

How naive was I to think that would sort it out!

It seems that my bank has finally updated my address, before play.com got around to check my old address, which I had corrected it to, so now it's an error again and this time they want me to send them some documents.

Trying to call them, to find out exactly what they wanted me to send them, I once again got "We're sorry. The service you're trying to reach is unavailable right now".

I don't think I'll be shopping with them then.

Nesacat, I had the same reaction to the thomas covenant novels. I've always told myself I'll give them another chance, but have never got around to doing it yet.

And I also agree with you about Clive Barker. He has such wonderfull characters and landscapes.
