i just want to know what every ones favorite eddings book is because ive only read half of them and i was just wandering if i have somrthing to look forward to if i dont im still going to read them all to satisfy my intrigue:confused:

I have no real "favorite". Belgarath the Sorcerer come out on to of the ones I like, but I like all the Belgariad, Mallorean, Redemption of Althalus, and Polgara the Soceress. They are all really good and I love them all.

Same thing. Its impossible for me to say which of the books in the Belgariad is the best. Some of them would probably be my favourite. Allthough it is possible i enjoyed Belgarath the Sorcerer even more..

I had read the belgariad a few times then but hadn't read it for a long time. Then i found Belgarath from a bookstore. I still remember how marvellous i felt when I came home and opened it laying in my bed. Ahh!

Polgara the Soceress... so far anyway!
It really gets you into the mind of a woman.
The characters are described so well.
I cried at a certain point... (I wont ruin it for those who haven't read it!)

As an Eddings fan, I can't honestly think of one that wasn't good.:)

Even the stand alone book 'The Redemption of Althulus' made for brilliant reading.

I think the best place to start is at the begining, with the five books of
The Belgariad. That way you get to meet the characters as they first
appear.
Some of the history and other relevant factors are important, for you will come across some in the later series.

I liked the Elenium, although it's hard to choice with Eddings as only the worlds change the characters and dialogue remain the same.Sorry I didn't like Redemption of Althalus.

The Elenium and the Tamuli...I don't see them as trilogies so much as one book in three parts if you get what I mean...

Kye, I found ROA lacking some thing can't quite put my finger on what it was but it just didn't catch my imagination at all.
Lady Fel, all of his series seem to be one long book broken up for easier reading.I read the Belgariad in two volumes.

Yes, I can see what you mean LadyFel regarding them as one book in three parts.
I guess if there were different characters in each trilogy it wouldn't seem that way. Maybe an occasional 'flashback' to the original characters wouldn't have gone astray, making them the ancient heroes/heroins.
The only problem there would be that a lot of the characters, particularly Pol and Belgarath, were immortal.

Redemption of Althalus really enjoyed it one of my fav books of all time even if it is a bit cute n soft I'd recommend it to everyone
Welcome to our home away from home Jason! Glad to hear you enjoyed Redemption of Althalus, I did as well. Although I have heard a few of Eddings fans didn't like it very much.:(

If you have the time, maybe you could pop across to the Welcome thread and introduce yourself. I am sure all would be delighted to hear all ,(well nearly all) about you!:D

Have to say that i really enjoyed that one as well, though i have a special spot in my heart for the Belgariad and the Malloreon. Especially Silk. God i love that man! :D

The Elenium - it was his best work, and he showed a little more innovation and originality than in any of the others, and the story was mildly entertaining - putting it above all the others, which at best are simple mindless fun, and some (Dreamers series) are just awful. Reading Eddings after Feist didn't help, because Feist's best is in a completely different league. I wouldn't risk re-reading it though, because at least I can think I enjoyed it now. If I re-read it, I'd probably hate every moment of it.

My single favourite is probably Sorceress of Darshiva, it just combined everything I enjoyed about Eddings' work into one book - lots of great character interactions and interesting ideas.

At the other end is Redemption of Althalus which was a poor rehash of the Elenium/Tamuli without any kind of sense of danger at all, and the first book in the Elder Gods series, which I actually gave up a third of the way through - it's exactly the same smart-arse characters and woefully stupid opponents with corny dialogue as ROA.

I agree with you on that one. After patiently waiting for it to be released I was very disappointed with the Elder Gods, although I did finish reading the first book. For some reason it seemed as if a different author had written it !
