I am trying to locate a book, but am not sure I have the right title. I think the book was called "Day Runner." I loaned it out many years ago and never got it back, so I'm trying to find a copy.
The storyline as I recall it was as follows:
Because of overcrowding on the planet, people only "lived" 1 out of every 7 days. The other 6 days, they would go into a deep sleep. At the end of their day each week, they would pack up their personal items so that the person who was awake the next day could live in the house with his or her personal items. Each day developed its own culture, including different fashion, slang, etc. Most people understood and acquiesed to this way of life (I think I remember that guilt was part of it - something along the lines of "you wouldn't want to wake up and find that the person who was supposed to go to sleep in the house the previous night had stayed awake and was still living in your home"), but those who decided to stay awake were called "day runners."
Again, it has been a long time, but I think the above is accurate. I would appreciate any assistance from anyone who remembers the true name of the novel or the author.
