The Lady of Battles Discussion

The Lady of Battles is the confusing factor behind Alain's situation in this story.

Ask a question about the Lady of Battles, I might be able to help... and I promise to not give anything away.

Re: The Burning Stone - The missing fifty pages

Mmmmm.... good question, and that has been a raging debate on Kate's forum.
Many have asked if she is friend or foe...
The cover of the last book is of Alain and her...
I don't know the answer to your question and my opinion would give away some info you haven't read yet...

Re: The Burning Stone - The missing fifty pages

She kept him from entering the church. She kills whereas he can not kill. She elevates him for what purpose? She could use anybody? Why him? Unless she is his ancestor.... he is her blood. In this way they are connected.

Re: The Burning Stone - The missing fifty pages

Does she elevate him? Could she have used anybody?
And Yes, indeed, why Alain? Why did she pick and make Alain swear an oath to her?
And just so you know... The Lady of Battles is the saint of barren and chaste women. So it is very unlikely that she is his ancestor.
I'm surprise you haven't mentioned the rose. ;)

I think the Lady of Battles elevated Alain- for what purpose, I don't know.

As for her being the saint of barren and chaste women, I'm still toying with the idea of an immaculate conception. Can't get much more chaste than that.

Hmmm.... I hate to go into details with Lacey not finished with the story... but I don't agree with you Arya... I think the Lady of Battles is a foe of Alains'. And there is much more involved with her and The Lord and Lady and the spheres of the heavens... but what the connection is, I'm not sure...

I do think that this part about the Lady of Battles might be their own thread... if that's possible Lacey. ;)

Well, you know, when it comes to certain immortal types, having one take a friendly interest can be just as bad (if not worse) than their outright animosity.

As in: "I like you kid. Now how about I put you through a brisk round of misery, torture, and angst, just to bring you up to your full potential?"

LOL
I hope I remain under the radar of any immortal types... I dont think I want to live up to my potential!

Ever read the Renshai Chronicles? talk about being taught how to live up to your potential... The sword of truth series does that alot too... hehe

Interesting bit there Kelpie... have to ask... is this a piece of information from Kate? Or your thoughts?

Regardless, still very interesting...
Spoiler----------------------------

She ends up killing him... or at least trying to... so how can she bring him to speed when she does that... or could that be all of the master plan...
I actually hate thinking about these books sometimes. They are like a puzzle that has over half the pieces that are invisible to me so nothing makes sense to me... When I ask one question, twenty more spring to mind. I can't wait to read the last two.

Just my own thoughts, Alia. Though near-death experiences can be so, um, good for developing character.

And also, going by what I know of Kate/Alis herself, the more she loves her characters the more she beats them up, so why shouldn't the same be true for some of her more powerful "stand-ins" as well?

You think? Sorry couldn't resist a bit of sarcasm there... ;)

She must really love Alain...

The poor guy goes through hell... literally... I would never want to endure through half of what he does... for some reason he keeps on going, never questions 'why him'. I wonder why? I wonder why he never questions why he has gone through so much and just accepts it? He knows he has strange things happening to him, but he doesn't get sad about all horrible things that happen to him and it all starts with the Lady of Battles...
So Kelpie, do you think she is a friend or foe?

Yes, I am sure Alis really does love Alain. You don't see her putting the likes of Hugh through years of torture and disappointment and being built up only so his entire life can come crashing down, do you? No. When all is said and done, Hugh will probably get off relatively easily, considering his crimes. Death. Dismemberment. That sort of thing. All these pale beside what Alain has been through.

As to what the Lady of Battles intends, I have no least idea. The only idea I have is that if I had an idea Alis would probably do something completely different.

Is Alain's connection with Stronghand also connected to his link with the Lady of Battles?

I don't think so.

So Alain is special without the Lady.

Is Alain's connection with the Lavas hounds anything to do with the Lady of Battle?

I don't think so.

So Alain is special without the Lady.

How can she be his foe if she saves him on so many occasions?

Are you done reading that 3rd book yet?
I don't think so... ;)

Alain is special without the Lady... but I have to say that she does provide him with a path in which Alain grows and matures, he wouldn't have had so many life experiences if he had gone into the church. Something to take note of Lacey while you read, linking Alain to Liath. Remember the seven ladders known to the mages, in which Liath sites at the beginning of Kings Dragon... Alain walks that ladder, twice! I think that is very important in leading him to his destiny and the Lady is the one who starts him on his way.

I shall keep that in mind Alia. Alain is an utterly likeable person, someone you would wish to preserve if you were a character in the story. I would take bats for the lad. :)

I'm curious on what you think of the Lady of Battles at this moment. And I'm assuming that you haven't finished reading the 3rd book either...
