My younger brother is 10 years of age, and has recently discovered a love of fantasy books. I am thrilled, but I don't know what to recommend. He is not a very strong reader, and has recenty been reading the Deltora Quest series by Emily Rodda.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of any books/series/authors, that are not too hard, and that he might enjoy.

Thank you,

Ben.

Ok, I've moved it for you but GOLLUM wasn't admonishing you just directing you to a pertinent forum. There are threads there that mention good reads for YA fiction, recommendations and all of that sort of stuff. There are tons of authors mentioned there and many good reads.

Congratulations on helping your brother find some fantastic (pun intended :p ) reading!

Has he read the Harry Potter series... They are easy reads, but can get into quite adult themes (death, etc)...

Then there is His Dark Material series by Philip Pullman - but again, he tends towards adult themes...

Glad you liked the forum Ben and good to see another Aussie on board... :D

BTW you may want to post a Hello under the Introductions section to say G'day to other Members. Not eveyone does this so no drama, your choice mate.... :)

HMM... then again us Aussies do need to stick together HE HE... ;) :D

We should get you a little uniform GOLLUM (not the school girl uniform)... And you can welcome all newcomers, and direct them... ;)

I don't know how I missed this thread... Sorry Rand Al'Thor... and thanks Dwndrgn for moving it.
There are plenty of good YA and Children books to read... a few good ones I would recommend is A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce, Ella Enchanted and The Two Princess of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine, The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell for starters... I have more suggestions and also... as Master suggested before the Harry Potter series mentioned above. They are truly a delightful easy read!!!
Deltora Shadowlands is another series by Emily Rodda to check out...
Keep us posted on what he reads and how he likes them. I would be interested in what he thinks.

The Prydain Books by Lloyd Alexander (The Book of Three, The Black Cauldron, etc.) are excellent and were written for readers right around your brother's age. Anything by Edward Eager might be a good choice, too, since the books are fun and not too challenging.

And not to say that you won't get wonderful suggestions here, but you could also stop by your local library and ask whichever librarian is in charge of the kids' books, because a librarian will know exactly what's right for your brother's age and reading ability.

Ok, I'm taking all this in. I'm interested in Prydain Books, can someone tell me what the first couple of the series are called, if it is even series.

Thanks,
Ben
