Just received the email newsletter from EOS, the SF/Fantasy imprint at HarperCollins here in the US (they are very erratic about getting the newsletter out), and thought I'd share what it says about upcoming titles.

(Some of these are mass market reprints of books already out in hardcover, so if you've been waiting for the paperback ...)

AUGUST

Acorna's Children: First Warning
Anne McCaffrey and Elizabeth Ann Scarborough

Blood and Memory
Fiona McIntosh

Storms of Destiny
A. C. Crispin

Radiant
James Alan Gardner

SEPTEMBER

Shaman's Crossing
Robin Hobb

The System of the World
Neal Stephenson

The Jaguar Knights
Dave Duncan

Magic Time: Ghostlands
Marc Scott Zicree and Robert Charles Williams

OCTOBER

The Singer's Crown
Elaine Isaak

Conventions of War
Walter Jon Williams

The Shadow Roads
Sean Russell

Thanks Kelpie - the Walter Jon Williams book "Conventions of War" - does it say whether or not that is part of his "Praxis" series. Also does it give a specific date for it's release? (I'm really looking forward to the next part of that series!) :)

No, Out of This World (the EOS newsletter) is silent on both of those points.

But a peek in at Amazon gives the answers yes, and October 1.

Shaman's Crossing
Robin Hobb

I just finished reading it, and really enjoyed Shaman's Crossing, a solid start to a new epic fantasy series, really interested i nreading the enxt installment

Blood and Memory
Fiona McIntosh

I haven't read this from Mcintosh, but I believe one of thr other Admins at FBS is doin gso right now, he has good things to say about her work, however are tastes are vastly different. He compared her to Hobb.

The System of the World
Neal Stephenson

Great book, great ending to a great series.

I've been let down by Amazon release dates before :(
I'd actually heard the release date was sometime in November so at least it's earlier than I originally thought :)

Since the newsletter lists the Williams book as October (and they should know) I'd say that part at least is pretty firm. But Amazon has been known to round off dates to the first of the month from time to time.

Well, as I said, the list is off a HarperCollins newsletter, so yes, those are all HarperCollins titles -- which is not to say that some of them might not be published by somebody else outside the US.

Kelpie, are these books that you listed only published by HarperCollins?

I'm not Kelpie, but No. In some cases different publishing companies, in other Harper Collins but different branches. Shaman's Crossing is a Voyager product in the UK (and came out 3 weeks ago). System of the World is a William Morrow product (and came out last year). Mcintosh is with Voyager AU. Of course Voyager is a subsidiary of Harper Collins, but the product is generally released ouside of the U.S first.

My curiosity, which often gets the better of me, is I wonder how many different publishers there are for Fantasy and Scifi. I actually had never heard of HarperCollins (not that I take much note on who publishes what ~ sorry) until I picked up your book Kelpie. I know of DAW & TOR... and Orbit in the UK and that's how much I know...
Now my curiosity is making me wonder if there are just publishers for Young Adults...
Does anyone by chance know this?

And Kelpie, I'm sorry for the inane questions and I'm also very sorry for going off subject.

EDIT: Ainulindale... I've noticed that often times books are released in the UK before or after the US... Another question... (curiosity will be my death) are books published in the US or UK first depending on where the author lives or has published their books?

Off the top of my head:

Literaly dozens, and dozens (note some are parts of others - but they ahve all their own publicists so i nessence they are seperate entities):

Tor
Del-Rey
Penguin
Pan Macmillan
Simon Schuster
Pyr
Prime
Wildside
MonkeyBrain
AIO
Baen
Night Shade
Subterranean
Meisha Merlin
Golden Gryphon
Small Beer Press
Bloomsbury
Voyager
Behler
Pitch-Black
Crowswing
Ps Publishing
Gollancz
Wizards of the Coast
Daw
Warner Aspect

Definitely tons more.

Thanks for that Ainulinadale... It seems I open a can of worms on that question... Some of those are UK publishers right? And do any of them publish just YA books?

Several years back, Avon/William Morrow reorganized their AvoNova SF/Fantasy list as the EOS imprint. Shortly afterward, when HarperCollins bought Morrow, EOS absorbed all the H/C SFF titles. Which leads me to think that HarperCollins did not have much of a presence in the SFF field at that time, venerable old publishing house though they were and are, or it would have been the other way around. But Avon has been publishing the stuff for a long time.

To all the publishers that Ainulindale mentions, I can add Ace/Berkley -- one of the oldest (if not THE oldest) SF/Fantasy imprints in the US -- and Bantam Spectra.

And EOS has a teen division, Alia, with it's own (equally erratic) newsletter and advance reader program. You might want to check it out.

You better believe it Alia!...:D

Adding to the list of the probably better known publishers I'll suggest:

Arkham House
Orbit
Necronomicon Press
PS Publishing
BantamDell (Randomhouse)
Orion Publishing

Therre's other ones that publish YA, so if you like I can provide you with a list of those later on..:D

Suppose you already know that, but yes, it's a part of the series, the third volume after "The Sundering". If you want to, a part of this novel (solely about Martinez - a few chapters) are available in Aeon magazine no. 1 (or should I say e-magazine?). You can see a preview of that one on
http://www.aeonmagazine.com/aeonone.html
and buy it on www.electricstory.com or somewhere else, though now there's relatively little time left to the release in October and so maybe it'd be better to read the entire book then:)
