I found this book by Erikson in a used book store and I don't think anyone's mentioned it here. I think it's his first book.

Anyway, I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes his other work. The style is very surrealistic and experimental (even more than usual for Erikson), taking place simultaneously in the past, present and future and also in a couple of parallel universes and fantasy worlds.

As you can probably guess, it gets a bit confusing. But it's definitely worth sticking with. Like Douglas Adams, Erikson takes a bunch of seemingly random events and maked them "click" very nicely towards the end.

I'm afraid you're thinking of Steve Erickson. Not Steven Erikson. A very easy mistake to make, its true;)

That's what I thought. (Who Ainulindale claims is a better author - ADangerousIdea, you can tell us if there is any truth that Erickson is better than Erikson).

Yep that mix up of those 2 names happens quite often actually...

*EDIT* DOH!! just realised I posted something on this in ADangerousIdea's welcome thread LOL!! Sorry mate!!...
