Holly Black

I actually haven't read that book by Holly Black. However, I have read the Spiderwick Chronicles by her and Tony DiTerlizzi. They are very short easy reads. Great beginner chapter books for beginner readers. For ages 8 on up.

The sequel to the first book - Tithe- is out this month:D

Haven't read any of her stuff though I've heard good things about the Spiderwick Chronicles (they are making a movie out of it too, btw) and have been looking for copies in the library and used book stores but haven't had any luck yet.

Tithe was one of those lucky chance buys for me - just picked it up cos I liked the cover. It's now one of my favourite books! :)

(referring to the above) - TELL ME MORE! I'd never read anything quite like it before and I really enjoyed it. Could any of you recommend any other books that are similar in any respect? Cos that would be cool.... :D

I read Tithe, and i must say i really enjoyed it. It is a much darker take on fairy creatures.

I've yet to get my hands on the new book, anyone managed to get it yet?

Ive started Valiant, it's not necessarily a sequel to Tithe, but is based on a familar theme :D Quite good so far :D

Yeah, I also preferred Tithe and she really is good at the urban fairy tale even her short stories have that sort of feel to it. I love her and her books. She must start writing more (other than the kid's books).

Ironside just came out. The sequel to Tithe, and I can't wait to read it!

Ive read Ironside, got it read last week. What did anyone else think of it. I think its the weakest of the three urban fantasy books she has written, but its still pretty enjoyable

I read "Valiant" and I didn't like it at all. I thought it was really bad actually, had too much swearing and sex in it, and the Beauty and the Beast plot line featured practically nil.

But I might try Tithe and see if I like that better. You guys seem to like Tithe better, so I'll give it a shot.

Actually, there is now a third book in the series called Ironside! I haven't read it yet (I'm waiting for the paperback), but if its as good as the other two, I can't wait!

I really loved Tithe and enjoyed Ironside, though it wasn't as good. I did enjoy Valiant but didn't find Val as likeable as Kaye and I preferred the plot of Tithe.

I did actually like Valient and Ironside more than Tithe, or did I? Ah, I loved them all, have introduced me to urban fantasy. I thought the idea in Ironside was genius - 'find a fairy that can lie'. I also really like the drug addict meets magic side to Valient.

Holy Black's book are very compelling. Persoanlly I really enjoyed Valiant. It was a very good book. I thought the troll was so cool!!!
