Young at Heart
In the Ruins by Kate Elliott... what can I say? I promise in this first post I won't spill out too much...
Well... this book will not disappoint you at all, if you love the series. Kate is pulling all the characters together and you are just starting to see her master plan. The only one who still baffles me is Hugh and what he is up to. He is still obessing about Liath and wants nothing to do with anyone but her, sexually.
The Aoi have returned and the those caught in the aether have become of real substance and returned home. You really see a lot of how the Aoi live and think in this book.
In this book Blessing and her schola wake up... and also Berthod and his schola. There's an intense scene when they first do and nothing goes right for this small group of people (and if you haven't guessed, they are all together when they do wake up).
Ivar sets out to help Constance, which he does... it's very clever how he does it and it's one of my favorite parts to read of the book 6.
Liath makes it back to Sanglant... and they travel up north to Wendar. This is most of the book and after a while I couldn't wait for them to get home so we could get on with it... I'm bad I know... Anyways... Sanglant is crowned King and there's some turmoil over Liath being Queen.
I still don't know who the pura is going to be... but I sure do like Sorgatanti! Hanna ends back up with her along with Sister Rosvita (and everyone survived that was with Sister Rosvita) and last I saw of them they were all headed north. Hanna does have a bit of a rough time... poor girl. I feel really bad for her... I even feel bad for Sapientia, who also ends up with this group.
I didn't see a lot of Alain... he does talk about The Lady of Battles. He talks about his father, Lavastine and Henri. He makes it clear he doesn't care to know who his real father is... I sure hope Kate tells us.
I only saw Stronghand once in the whole book. Kind of a let down for me. I like him. I wish I could see more of him and what Kate intends on doing with him and connecting him with the others. If it's there, I may have missed it, probably went right over my head.
The heresy religion is still going strong... Baldwin is called a saint by Constance... He's the one character who was truly annoying before redeems himself in this story and he is also the one spreading the heresy religion around too.
Tallia is still a twit...you really start hating her even more after this story.
Wolfhere makes an appearance... and I've always been in doubt of his intentions... not anymore.
Adelheid and Antonia... Adelheid truly did love Henri... but regardless she is a twit and Antonia is still an evil little seed. They run into Herbert (who isn't acting normal ~ I think he is possessed) and gets Antonia's anger up. I love it!
I am very worried about Herbert to be very honest! I knew at the beginning of the book something wasn't right with him. By the end your know for sure, but you don't know exactly what's going on. I sure hope he survives this, but I just don't see a good end for him.
I talked about Alain on 'Who is Alain' thread... won't go into a lot of details on him. He didn't make much of an appearance in the book.
Overall... the first 300 pages seem long to me... and then it got really good and interesting. I've learned from past experiences with Kate to read every little detail and again that stands true. I think things that are told about Blessing relates to Alain and things that Liath teaches and thinks deals with Alian and the Aoi and the spell. Every detail is important!
Well... I made this long enough and I didn't intend on going into every character...
If there is something I missed please feel free to share... or for those who want to know about a certain situation with one of the characters I'm more than willing to share it on this thread, just ask.
