Hi all!.. :D

Some members have been asking me about books specifically involving animals, so I thought I'd list some YA ones here:

Eragon. Book 1 of Cristopher Paolini's Inheritance trilogy about a boy and his dragon.

http://www.chronicles-network.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1084

Phillip Pullman's his Dark Materials trilogy. Probably for older teenagers but has some animals as a central theme. Worth a read.

Michelle Paver's Children's series starting with Wolf Brother, Book 1 of a six part installment The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness.

http://www.chronicles-network.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6546

Richard Adam's Watership Down, a classic tale of the genre.

David Clement's Fire Bringer and The Sight.

Brian Jacque's Redwall series. Very popular series, perhaps a classic series in the making.

Robin Jarvis The Dark Portal, Book 1 of the Deptford Mice Trilogy, younger audience ages 9-12.

Eve Bunting's Red Fox Running. Beautifully lyrical book for younger children, ages 4-8.

Collin Dann's The Animals Of Farthing Wood series. Very popular amongst younger children.

Kenneth Oppel's Silverwing series, younger children.

Erin Hunter's Warrior series, not bad, Redwall probably better.

Tad Williams Tailchaser's Song. This was Tad's first book and having read all of his books I quite liked this one myself, recommended.. :D

Kenneth Grahame's classic Wind In The Willows. Do yourself a favour and check this one out... :)

A. A. Milne's Winne The Pooh

E. B White's classic Charlotte's Web.

Another now familiar book/movie by E.B. White Stuart Little.

Rudyard Kipling's classic The Jungle Book.

Roald Dahl's classic James and The Giant Peach.

AVI's Poppy book series, ages 8-12.

This is only the tip of the iceberg so please feel free to add to this list.. :)

Excellent list Gollum... Lots of names I recognized and have read!!! One to add to your list is Harry Potter Series. Harry has an owl and his friends have pets too.

Tad Williams Tailchaser's Song. This was Tad's first book and having read all of his books I quite liked this one myself, recommended.. :D
Is this book a YA book? I thought it was an adult book, but I haven't read it yet...

A. A. Milne's Winne The Pooh
And this book is about stuffed animals... does that count? :D

Re: YA Fantasy With Animals

Sold as YA on Amazon. Just bought it (thanks Gollum :( )

Alia, Tailchaser's song is a book to be enjoyed by both adults and teennagers, maybe not for younger children though.... :D

If you are a lover of cats you will particulalry enjoy it!

In fairness some have said the story is a little predicatable and that Tad's invention of a specialised cat language annoying for some but I enjoyed the story all the same. Not his best effort but quite good still.

Not sure if your :( means you're upset with me in some way Leto, I hope not!... Especially after that startling likeness of me you posted as a recent pic... :D

Alia FYI my inbox is pretty much full so chat later, I'm off to sleep now... :)

PS Winnie The Pooh will always count, you know that mate.

I visit Barnes and Noble on a regular basis (they know my first name now :D) and I have never seen it in the YA section, but I wasn't looking for it either. I have seen it in the Adult section. I shall give it a gander when I finish with my stacks of books that need to be read. I have seen one author whose books are in both in theYA and Adult section of a mouse and his adventures, but I'm not sure of his name. I want to pick up the book and read it (it looks really good) but I just don't dare buy another book until the stacks get smaller.

Winnie rocks with his head full of stuff. ;)

LOL... I'm just as bad racking up the book bill! One reason why I don't shop online so I stay within limits. I have even stopped going to the book store until I get more reading done.

Any tales with animal companions which are a bit mopre grown up? Like the way it was handled between Fitz and Nighteyes?

I know the Jane Lindskold book. Maybe Jordan's Perrin and his wolves, though I have not read them so I cannot say how well Jordan did there.
