Here's another poem just for the heck of it...Terry :)

Skipping Across Creation
cTerry Weide

Do you remember when the big bang echoed
And our souls skipped across galaxies?
When unbounded by physical bodies,
We rode on comets
As novas bloomed like violet roses?

Do you remember the garden--
When we were born without navels,
When we ate the fruit we shouldn’t have
And got sent outside to play?

Do you remember when Noah forgot the unicorns,
And Pandora opened up the box?
When Atlantis rose from the waves,
And we used the crystals of the earth to power
Our cities, our ships, and ourselves?

Do you remember when aliens walked the earth,
And the South Pole was free of ice?
When we built the pyramids on the moon
And carved the face on Mars?

Do you remember when we could walk on water,
Heal the sick and raise the dead?
Feed the masses with a piece of bread?
How we joked about crucifixion
And gladly went into the tomb,
Then burst like stars from eternity’s womb?

Do you remember the Renaissance,
All the sinners and saints,
Drinking wine with da Vinci,
And teaching Michelangelo how to paint?

Do you remember Napoleon at Waterloo,
Crockett in the Alamo,
Lee at Appomattox,
And all the battles lost?

Do you remember World War I
And the gas of the trenches,
World War II and the gas of the showers?
Do you remember making the world safe for democracy--
All the times we won?
Vietnam, and the fires in the slums?

Do you remember when the Kennedys were shot,
And Armstrong walked on the moon?
When the wall came down,
And towers and shuttles crashed to the ground?

Do you remember Armageddon, when it all came to an end,
When Jerusalem came to earth,
And Fenris got out of his pen?

Do you remember your face before physical form
Is the same face you have now?
That we’re always at the beginning--
That while stars are flying apart,
Matter is collapsing at the universe’s heart?

Do you remember the past is the present,
The future is now,
Waves are particles,
Particles waves,
And all events happen in the exact same hour?

Do you remember galaxies are for skipping on,
Comets love to be taken for rides,
Life and death are lovers, dancing side by side?

Do you remember there was no time you did not exist,
And there is no time you ever will?
That you are still being created,
And you always will?

Was this out of one of your books Mr ?

Have read a few of your poems before, this one IMHO is the best yet!

I particularly liked the last four verses. Certainly gives one something in depth to think about.

Thank you:)

It's interesting. Because of its historical allusions it reminds me of Ginsberg's "America."

I would change the fifth stanza to:

"Do you remember when He could walk on water,
Heal the sick and raise the dead?
Feed the masses with a piece of bread?
How He joked about crucifixion
And gladly went into the tomb,
Then burst like stars from eternity’s womb?"

Because it was only Jesus who walked on water.

To which I might reply, that in John 14 he says, "He that believeth on me, the works I that I shall do, he do also; and greater works than these shall he do..." etc., which to me implies that not only are we supposed to emulate the master, but at some point we're supposed to exceed the works that he did. I also seem to recall that Peter walked on the water, however briefly, and fell in because he lost his faith that he could do it. The minute you say to yourself, "This is impossible, no one can walk on water, and certainly not me," it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Well, that's my intrepretation. As you say, to each their own. Best wishes, Terry :)

I enjoyed your poem. There's been very few poems that have sparked my interest. And sir, your poem sparks more than just sparked my interest, it gave me inspiration. It made me think on your philosophical poem which I liked. Very good job, keep up the good work.

Cimmerian,

Thank you for your very kind words. I'm happy to have inspired you. Good luck with your own writing or whatever projects you choose to focus on.

Best wishes, Terry Weide :)
