Just received Cecilia's September Newsletter.

The Crowthistle Chronicles written by Cecilia Dart-Thornton.
Book # 2 The Well of Tears due out on 1st November - hooray
Book # 3 Weatherwitch published October 2006
Book # 4 Fallowblade published in June 2007.

I really enjoy her writing, particularly her first series - The Bitterbynde.

Thanks for the info Rosemary.

Yep I quite like her writing although plenty don't, I think her original Bitterbnyde sereis is the one I like the most...:D

I quite liked the second in the Bitterbynde series but the first was too unfocused and the third was almost devoid of story, just overflowing wordplay.

I'm looking forward to read the first in the new series but I wasn't expecting 4 books.
It does lower my interest a bit. I'd have to wait a couple of years to try it out since I don't like buying books and reading them until I have at least half of the series available. That is if I already know the author. Reviews for The Iron Tree have been quite differing. Some like it a lot and others think it's junk.

I don't know if she might have decided to let storytelling go before wordsmithing this time but reviews seem to indicate she hasn't. I love good poetical prose but not at the price of story. Cecilia's own idol, Tanith Lee, has written a lot of such novels of late.

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy The Bitterbynde very much ericf.

I think the 'wordplay' was the first thing that caught my interest. So different from most other Fantasy books. According to Cecila, she doesn't follow any of the 'writing rules' hence the amount of adjectives.

Have read The Iron Tree - I didn't find the storyline as interesting as the Bitterbynde, certainly very different in its setting. She still uses her 'wordplay' but not to such a great extent.

Oh, it's not that I don't like wordplay, I usually love the way Tanith Lee does it, but when story comes second or third in a book I usually tend to find it a bit tiring.

I just wish I lived in a country where I could find these books in used bookstores to just sample authors. Not possible here in Sweden.
