When I'm not editing or writing, I enjoy fishing,
Adventure Books Publishing of Seattle loves to give new authors a shot at publication. We publish hard science-fiction (no fantasy), romance novels, how-to, and other categories. Right now we are seeking a few more titles for Spring-Summer 2006 release. We especially like works under 70k words, because they are more cost-effective to wholesale, both for the author and the publisher.

We offer a generous royalty arrangement, a free copy of your book, and other benefits. Our marketing program works!

We don't charge money to publish your book. We are NOT a vanity press. We are a small press, but we are established in many bookstores in the Northwest.

Aw c'mon Robert - if you can't even buy a $8 domain and $5/month webhosting it leaves you looking very unprofessional.

Also, the whole website presentation is poorly done - half the front page is about Mars images. How does that relate to book publishing??

Yes, you are right on all counts! We have a domain name, just haven't set it up yet. Also, the website is not free. Premium. Costs about what you mention above.
You are correct about the Mars Images, etc. I am changing all of that this weekend. AB started out as our personal website and needs to be converted. I have been busy with manuscripts and putting out our first book. I received the first copies today, they came out very well and I was happy.
I agree with you on all the things you said. We researched the idea of publishing books under the AB name for two years. Suddenly shifting over from strictly writing to writing and publishing has taken up a lot of our time, but by next week we will be on more solid ground. I had to use the freewebs moniker in our website name for now, but I am sure we will change servers very soon.
What we did was organize the publishing end of the business until we felt comfortable we could do what we want to do, and I stalled the changing of the website until last. Perhaps I should have done this first. Check back on Monday.

Sincerely and honestly, Robert

Just a quick additional note. Your posting reminded me we DO have much work to do at the Adventure Books site this weekend. So, the site may not be available most of the weekend.
Thanks for the polite kick-in-the-behind, though! I have already deleted dozens of useless images and files from the server, plus four of the pages. I am now in the rebuilding phase. Again, thanks!

Apologies if I sounded harsh, but you caught me in something of a business mood, and presentation issues can be extremely important online.

Personally, I would recommend you get your new website set up first before making a big push on soliciting for manuscripts, as you will create a far better *professional* impression.

There are too many sites out there soliciting for manuscripts that fail completely to show any effort on basic issues of professionalism, and you are in danger of appearing as part of the same crowd unless you differentiate yourself from them first.

I certainly do wish you every success with your project - but I do heartily recommend you do what you can to set up a better presentation. If you need any advice, feel free to pop in here:

and I'll help advise how I can on getting your set up right. My day-job is building and marketing websites, so hopefully I can throw a few useful tips your way.
