does anyone know anything about the chronicles movies that is supposed to be coming out, like when and who's in it, that sort of thing. or where i can find out about it?

I love my movies, but there's no way I'll watch these if the Saturn idea stays. Just another Hollywood toss-off. I must say I'm disgusted, why not do a LOTR-type adaption where integrity and love of the books is key?
I'll just stick with the books, what more do you need?

Hmm not sure about this...how on earth are the going to potray his inner turmoil:confused: .To much will be lost in the translation.I will go and see it but will probably go away with a bitter taste in my mouth:( Oh well hope I'm proved wrong.

We are soon to be treated to "Lord of the Narnia" so why not "Lord of the Chronicles?" ;)

Not so sure tortured anti-heros and Hollywood is a good mix. Will wait and see.

Although LOTR the movie was done quite well considering the amount of detail lost, I really cannot see how The Covenant will be portrayed.

Perhaps if the film is watched first then read the books, it might be better. Pre-conveived images after reading the book and how these are shown on screen will then not clash.

Many said that Dune was unfilmable (is that a real word or did I just make it up?)

Many would still say that it is unfilmable.

I get the same sense about Covenant. I just feel that it's not quite right for the celluloid treatment. Still, I've been proved wrong many times before:)

ill be gutted if they ruin this! they should give it to me, i would take out or change anything, nobody would watch it tho. it'd be forty hours long or something

A true fan of The Covenant wouldn't mind though :)

As there's not a lot of info available yet, I've been pondering about Saturn and here are my thoughts.

I'm presuming that somebody in charge of bringing this story to the big screen has decided that Lord Foul is not a suitable character for a general audience and (for some reason) Saturn is a better choice. What bothers me is not so much the name change but the other areas that may change along with it.

If Lord Foul is unsuitable - what about the nature of despite? Is that suitable? And what about the name Saturn - has this particular title been chosen for a particular reason? (could it be a reference to Saturn - god of the harvest? Would this tie in with some point about the Sunbane?)

My major concern is this - if it moves too far away from the original, it may not find an audience at all - but by changing too much may just alienate its natural audience (ie. Donaldson fans).

Just some points to ponder:)

it will turn into just another sc-fi/fantasy film and be terrible if they dont do it justice. it should be done properly, it would be a shame to ruin it. i fell in love with the book, its amazing. to ruin it in my mind would be a travesty.

Very true Foxbat, you make some interesting, and scary, points. Surely you've gone too far, but who really knows?
Allanon, I agree with you completely, you can have the treatment and do with it as you will, the longer and deeper the better! If you or someone like you can't have it, then no one should in my opinion.
This world is heading into dark times, and fantasy book adaptations are no exception it seems.
I'm just glad that not everyone is following this trend, you guys included.

I don't think they could do it justice the books are about the power of guilt, how would they show all the pain and suffering of the characters.

If they make it I hope I'm wrong

But I would love to see Nom Run out of the Whirlwind.

That makes two of us mate, that's one image of many that stays with me. I find it hard to imagine visualising scenes like that for a movie. I just don't know. I get the feeling that Stephen or anyone else who is passionate about the books is not involved with the film project, but I'd love to be proven wrong!
