Dead witch walking by Kim Harrison
When I saw this book on my reccommendation list on Amazon, I though the soft used by this online shop got everything wrong for a change. But as I needed distraction I bought it. It turn out quite good :
The plot : A white witch investigator is starting her own private agency with a "living vamp" and a pixy, and fight to stop death threat hanging on her head.
What was expected : From the cover, showing a red hooker's back, anything
from the earlier Laurel Hamilton's Anita Blake serie to sappy teen romance novel (with Vampires Inside for the shock value) or pure PWP type of book.
What was the result : a witty intelligent mystery book, set in a urban fantasy world not so different from our world. Think Mike Hammer gone female and hanging with vamps, were and demons.
Ok, you won't have any profound thinking to chew after you've closed this book, but during all the reading you had a good mix of action, humor, character interactions. With a little bit of gore and sensuality. A pure entertainement experiment, and sometimes it's all you need.
