I don't really think it's SF, but his second novel Jennifer Government was described as a 'story in the near future'. So, that counts as SF. So, now we've all established that he is a SF-writer...

Does anyone read any of his books (Syrup or Jennifer Goverment)?
Do you also think he might be the funniest person on the planet? Or at least from Australia?
Do you can't wait for 'Company' his third novel, like me?

Loved Jennifer Government, but no, I wouldn't say he's the funniest person on the planet. Not even the funniest author, but JG is definately a very entertaining book:)

Yep, I know, and I'm excited about that. If you want to have a good laugh just check out his website http://www.maxbarry.com. One of my favourite lines he posted recently:

They say “definitely,” so you know it’s true.

Well, slap me across the face with a dead salmon and call me Andy, but I think that's funny.

Start with Ben Elton and Neil Gaiman, and work forward from there, through the late great Douglas Adams, Rob Grant... the list goes on;)

Still a wonderful writer though. Its no shame to be behind that lot...

Gaiman is very good, I have to agree on that, as is Adams. I haven't read Elton or Grant, though.

I'm rather disappointed no one comments more. There's a lot of Aussies here. Come on!

Well I'd love to Mark but eventhough Max lives in the same city as me I mainly read fantasy style novels and have not read anything by him yet.

I'm sure some of the other aussies here will chime in in due course...:)

EDIT: Well OK I just wandered off for a little while and thought I'd find out a little more about my fellow Melbournian Max.

Here's an interview that may be of interest to the writers amongst you.
