M.I. McAllister writes: 'Grew up on the north-east coast, both parents, one older sister. Primary school ok, hated secondary school, wonderful sixth-form college. Did lots of dance and drama — stagestruck, ‘Wrote’ stories in my head even before I could write. Started a course in Education and Dance in Exmouth, then came back to Newcastle to do a B.Ed. in English. Married a clergyman in 1978, two years in Bristol working in the Education Offices, then five years in Wallsend. Taught a lot of dance and drama in an arts centre. Six years in Amble in Northumberland. After years of trying to write, cut off, did and Adult Ed course in writing short stories and started to be published in magazines.

I love the book Urchin and The Riding Stars. I really enjoyed the way it was written and the little bit of intrigue that was provide. When I was reading it I remember that I wanted to know how Urchin was going to bring down the evil captian. It wasn't fully developed like I would have enjoyed, but it's hard to keep in mind that that this was a YA book even though it wasn't for the younger crowd, more for ages around 10 years old on up. There is violence, insanity, murder of a child, and murder in general.

I've read Urchin of the Riding Stars and Urchin and the Heartstone, and I'm currently reading The Heir of Mistmantle. I love these books!
