As I've been kindly allowed to get away with posting my astrophotography here before: This was the sky over my house (Scotland, near Falkirk) about an hour ago. With the naked eye the colours weren't that visible, just the pattern of light, but I turned the exposure up to 1 second and there they were:
The culprit is the first in as series of 6 solar storms, spat in out direction by the big cluster of sunspots in the picture below (taken earlier today):
Not the greatest astrophotography ever - but this is my first go at catching aurora, so I thought I'd share
I'd say you got it a lot better than I did!My glimpse of it last night here in Michigan wasn't a great deal better. I could see some of the green and the light pattern with the naked eye, but not as brightly as my phone's camera could.
They're not very good pictures, but I at least got something. Going to try again tonight.
