I really enjoyed the series. There were a couple of things that bothered me, but there was much more to like. I'll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible.
The things that didn't bother me (thus, I liked):
1. The society of witches, some good, some bad, some just confused. This is much more realistic than some stories that have all witches as bad or all good.
2. 'Men of the Bull' as a euphamism. I found it worked quite well and was subtle enough to not be in anyone's face.
3. Runes, and therefore words, having power.
Things that bothered me:
1. The 'preacher' not speaking and not being helpful.
2. The story of the female lead's childhood, seemed too much like the 'bad fairy story'. I understand that people can have bad childhoods, but it seemed that everyone in the book had one and they were all worse than the last one.
3. The doomed people of the brothel - it seemed to have no true purpose but to spur someone into action - which can be alright but it just didn't fit for me.
