One of my favorite young adult books will always be Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien. I simply love it, and I think the movie (entitled The Secret of NIMH) was excellent too - it is probably my all-time favorite animated movie.

I read somewhere once that O'Brien wrote a sequel to it, but I have not been able to find a title anywhere on the net. Anybody heard similar rumors?

Anyway I'd love to hear your thoughts on both the book and the movie.

Take care and God Bless!

he did yeah (at least i think so!). but i cannot remember the name! there is a squel cartoon, too, but not as good. i loved that book :)

I've seen the movie but never read the book. Meant to, but never did.

But I thought I remembered hearing something about a sequel, too, so taking a look around, this is what I found:

It was written by O'Brien's daughter. It's not clear whether she conceived the plot herself, or was working from some notes he left behind. He did get a credit as co-author, so I suppose either could be the case.

"The Secret of NIMH" sort of runs together in my mind with "The Mouse and His Child." I do know that the stories are very, very different, but individual scenes and characters keep crossing over from one to the other amidst the clutter and chaos that I like to call my "mental processes."

So there are actually 2 sequels!

Racso and the Rats of NIMH and
R-T, Margaret, and the Rats of NIMH!

Cool! I'll have to see about getting myself some copies!

Thanks Kelpie! :)

Yeah, but just remember when you look for it that the book is not called The Secret of NIMH! It's called Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.

I read Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH when I was younger and then to my kids when they wanted to read it. Good books, good movie too.

I don't get what the story was about? Was it about morality? Maybe with higher intelligence comes a sense of morality and virtue? They come to learn that stealing is wrong?

I remember one of my primary school teachers read this to us over a number of weeks. A great book. Well, good memories, at least. Must look it up.
