Martin was/is a screenplay writer and producer. He also loved the new HBO shows such as Rome and Deadwood. With the success of these shows, as well as shows such as 24 and Lost...I dream someday ASoI&F will be an HBO or television show. I can see it easily being a 3 - 5 year runner.

Martin has stated that turning ASoI&F into a movie trilogy was not possible as it was for Lord of the Rings and I'll take his word on it, but the TV format is certainly possible.

I am allowed to dream : )

Even a TV Series of A Song of Ice and Fire will not be enough to portray Martin's books well enough I fear...

It will probably draw in those who have not read his brilliant books.

However, I have always found films or TV series to be rather disappointing, having lost so much of the finer details to be found in the books themselves.

There is a part of me that would love it, but the restof me would dread it. Can you imagine what would happen if they miscast crucial characters? It would be so disappointing! And even if they were cast well according to most people, it would never be as good as the images in our minds. The nuances of the story would be lost, and the nuances are part of the magic bag of tricks that make these books so wonderful.

Still, I would definately watch it!

I would hate it. First off, I don't believe it would be appropriate for national tv and if they made it so, it would be chopped to pieces.

Second, there is alot of detail like the drowned god and their drowning baptisms that would be lost. Not so much the drownings, but would you really know what is going on?

Third, it would also be hard to see what's going on in characters heads like Sams, when he is avoiding Gilly on the boat ride to Oldtown.

IMO you can't really screenplay a detailed work like ASoFaI without losing much of the substance of the story itself.

However, it would be interesting to see what he may deliver in screenplay format in future, should he so wish to be inclined. I believe he's spoken of his interest in doing something Roman in future.

The only problem I see for ASoIaF is that there is too much sex for primetime TV. The only person capable of writing a good screenplay would be Martin himself, he would also need complete control of the entire project or as stated above it would be chopped to little bits of unsubstantial nothingness.

Of course this is just my oppinion!

Sounds kind of like... Desperate Noblewives, Sex and the Kingdom, Survivor: The Seven Kingdoms, Westerosi Idol, CSI: King's Landing, Two and half Kings, Everybody Loves Sansa...

ooh! I wanna play:

My Name is Sandor....
All in the Family
The Dukes of Oldtown
Little House in the Riverlands
M*A*C*E
Law and Order: Dondarrion's Noose
Buffy the Frey Slayer

last but not least:

Extreme Makeover: Clegane Edition

Ok if some TV series or movie is done Mr. Martin can NOT be allowed to write the screenplay until all the books are done! I fear if he starts on the screenplay now he would need to speak with Steven Erikson about the possiblity of becoming ascended so that he would have enough time then to finish it all....Yikes I am sorry about that George but we all know how long the Feast took!
