Help to find a book

I read this kids book a long time ago. It's about a brother and sister who break into a house and find the interior is completely gold. It is owned by a guy who turns everything he touches into gold, and the brother gets grabbed by the ankle.
What follows is a long journey to find a remedy for his gold ankle, and everyone they meet tries to cut of his leg to get the gold ankle. There are mad monks, dragons, and an emperor in there too. I read it probably 8-10 years ago, if that helps.
