Beyond "Speaker for the Dead":- must be a ***** SPOILER *****

Cant remember how long ago (years)... But the last Card book I read was about the taking of a 'bug' egg and ressurecting 'them' upon a new planet (with a very strange ecology; ape-like creature -> worm -> tree -> grass -> grazer...)

Was this 'Xenocide'? Confirmation (or not) would be appreciated, along with more reminders before I attempt more in the series, and since theres the Shadow Saga too...

[terrible typos!]

It was Xenocide, but the creatures were pig-like (as opposed to ape-like). And all the settlers were Portuguese. Now that I think I about it I'm not sure if it was Xenocide. That might have been Speaker for the Dead; I read them both within a week of each other. Was it the Book of Mormon?

Yes, it was speaker for the dead- though the pig like sentients became trees, and vice versa, and worms grass, with no cross over between groups, and the humans were all infected with the microrganism that made all this possble- no, I'd have to reread it to get all the details of what was in this book, and what in the two volumes that followed.

I remember lots of talking of a Hegemon, and the Hegemon titles are from the Shadow series... I dont think I finished the first series, yet.

Yeah, Portuguese decendants. And it was Andrew Wiggin himself with the egg... I'd need to check out the book myself :p Xenocide, that is. And/or the others before I get hold of the next book.

Thanks for the reply, btw, Yossarian. It was Xenocide.

1) Enders Game (v)
2) Speaker for the Dead (v)
3) Xenocide (v)
4) Children of the Mind (next read)

Wyrms... Red Prophet... Tis why I thought Id read loads more of the Ender series and not just 1/2/3.

No piggies in SftD, Chris :D but I know you mean Xenocide. And have you read the Shadow series, too?

I don't think it is really giving away any spoliers to say that I thought Children of the Mind handles obsessive-compulsive disorder in a very interesting way.

I know, you didn't ask me. But, yes, I have read the Shadow series. There's some interesting material there - I find the whole idea of Bean to be very interesting - but the next to the last in the series (so far) felt like Card was just going through the motions. Glad to report that the most recent volume was quite a bit better, although still not nearly up to the quality of the original Ender books.

All of which, of course, is merely my two cents' worth, and your mileage may vary.:)

I hold my memory vindicated. I got my "Ender" books back from he to whom I had lent them (sorry bookshelves) It took me a while, and he hadn't finished "Children of the Mind" (after three years. How do people manage to make book last like that?) The delay was partly becuse they were in a different country.
So, "Speaker for the dead" is pequeninos, and Lusitania, the descolada virus, and the instalation of the Hive Queen's cocoon. Xenocide continues the story, with Jane, and the chinese colony with compulsive obsessive disorder, the queen's starships and instantaneous travel. I can't even work out what's left over for "Children" ;)
