Just found this article about Cameron Esselmont who apparently is a close friend of Steven Erikson. They were apparently fellow anthropologists and archeologists.

Esselmont will write a series of 6 or 7 books set in the same world as Erikson's Malazan Series. This world they created together for Role Playing.

Esselmont has already writting a 'stand alone' book - The Knight of Thieves.
The new series is titled 'Return of the Crimson Guard'.

I wonder if his series will be as successful as Steven Eriksons?

Yes according to Cal, Esselmont is a decent writer but not in Erikson's class.

I'm yet to read the first book by him.

For those unaware Esselmont was a major collaborator and confidant of Erikson's in the development of the Malazan world hence Erikson's acknowledgement to him in Gardens Of The Moon.

There's some info over in the Erikson subforum on this.....:)
