Has anyone else watched any episodes from the '80s television series, The Ray Bradbury Theater?

The first volume on DVD, which includes thirteen episodes on a single disc, is priced under ten bucks (U.S. dollars). Actually, I purchaseed the volume a few months ago back in San Francisco, but I hadn't watched a single chapter until last week. I don't recall seeing any of the episodes during its original run.

So far, I have watched "The Crowd" episode, which wasn't half-bad. It was about a man who starts to suspect that there is a roaming crowd of people that appear at deadly car crashes to suck the life out of the victims. It really had a classic Twilight Zone feel to it, which is only fitting considering Ray Bradbury wrote some of the episodes.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the series?

I think I may have seen 'The Crowd' quite a few years ago. Your description seems familiar but I can't remember much more than what you've already written about it. Still, I'm a fan of Bradbury's work and at the price quoted, I can assure you that I am off right now to hunt down a copy of this DVD :)

I watched quite a few a long time ago, but I ahven't had the pleasure of finding the DVD. I will look around for it. I do not recall seeing that episode, but like Foxbat Iam now on the trail!

For your info John:
I've managed to pick up volumes 1 and 2 for $13.98 from Amazon.com - which I think is a pretty good bargain(this price excludes postage).

Now I've just got to wait on them making their way across the pond :)

You mean as a total due? That is a better deal that I got! I love Amazon.com....

I think the bargin pricing is because they (Platinum) kept the DVD menu very simple and straight foward, which doesn't bother me. As long as the material is present, you know?

I don't know if you have ever bought one of those bargain DVDs of old black-and-white horror films put out by Diamond, but the menu interface is essentially the same.

Yes, that's the total. It's kind of Ironic that I find it cheaper to import from America than to buy in the UK.

DVD extras very rarely hold any interest for me so I'm happy with the basics.
I've never tried Diamond but for real old stuff and B movie, I nip across to Oldies.com where they have a fine selection of serials, silents and the best and worst of the worst:D

It has been some time since this thread was started, so I assume you, Foxbat, got your copy of the DVDs.

What were your thoughts on it?

I have a terrible confession to make. I have yet to watch every single episode on the first volume's DVD, but, more or less, I have enjoyed what I have seen. Is it just me, or does the image get pixellated from time to time? The "Playground" episode starring William Shatner is a good example.

I haven't watched many episodes yet. The Crowd was good, as was the Shatner episode you mention. There was another story about a guy who gets replaced by a robot double - it was quite good too.

On the subject of pixellisation - I have a similar problem. It looks to me that they've dropped the quality somewhat to fit all the episodes on the disc.

I suppose there were only modest sales levels expected of this release and, therefore, not a lot of investment went into its production.

Still, I must get around to watching more (I'm buying more than I have the time to watch right now....but so many bargains make it hard to resist):)
