How many pages do you read daily?

On a day where I am reading a lot, I read an average of around 100 pages. If it's an easy book and I have no other duties that day, I may reach as much as 200 pages. On busier day I read anything from 50 to zero pages.

But on average, I am usually able to finish a book of around 700 pages in about a week or a bit more. Unless I am busier that average in that week, in which case it takes longer.

For example, I finished a bunch of Elric of Melniboné books recently, a total of about 1000 pages in 9 days. (But Moorcock is pretty easy to read. Many writers take more time than this.)

Like many others who've posted in this thread, the amount I read per day depends on the amount of free time I have and how tired I am.

Yesterday, I didn't have much work to do, so I read 170 pages of Friedman's Black Sun Rising (published by Daw, so there are many tiny words of closely-spaced print on each page) in approximately three hours. The day before, when I had a regular amount of work to do, I read 30 pages of Friedman in the half an hour I had before bedtime. Some days, when I have tons of work to do, I don't read anything at all (except for student papers--but grading papers doesn't count as reading); on those days, I either fall right asleep or I watch TV or DVDs. And on days when I don't work, I may read an entire long novel, or I may go outside and muck about rather than reading.

I really couldn't tell you an average amount of pages.

Some days I don't read atall and others I finish entire books, so it varies, very much so.

xx

That the same as me :O

Today I have read two chapters - of the Bible!
Apart from that I have spent hours today/tonight (my goodness its almost half-past midnight!) on this website.

I can go to bed and read a whole book of my favourite author or I can read two paragraphs before the snores hit the ceiling.

It's all relative.

you know I have never counted, also I have never read the bible even though I have a catholic education
Now how on earth can you have a catholic education without reading the Bible?
I'd recommend it anyway - JD would be one of the first to confirm that there are just soooo many successful authors who have taken and used so much from it - as I have with my writing. It is a mine of good literature, poetry and wisdom.

260 pages (approx) yesterday.

It's a good book - what else can I say?

I tend to judge by books.

On average I read 2-3 books a week but it depends. I recently read The Decline and Fall ... and that was a book that took a LONG time to read (I can't remember exactly).

Page count doesn't mean much. It really how much information is on the page. I would normally read a Pratchett in a few hours but an Umberto Eco is a much harder (in terms of effort) beast.

Anything from 0 to 500+. Last time I went on a reading binge was Harry Potter 6, a week after it came out. I read it in one sitting, ordering in pizza and only getting up to go to the bathroom occasionally.

well I've study the gospels etc but never the fire and brimstone stuff, I might have a good if I have time, I not really a bible reading person but don't knock it till you try it I always say

It's really very relative. Sometimes it's a few books a day and sometimes it's several chapters or pages out of several books at different times of the day. It also depends on where I am for the day since I have books to travel with in my bag and books to read at the office as well.

... at the end of the day, all said and done, the Bible tells a good tale. From the point of view of pure story-telling it could even be one of the first works of fantasy.

That would be similar to me. I've read as little as 2 pages, and finished 400 or so in a marathon read.

For me it depends on many different factors. Some books I love and seem to find the time to read, no matter what, others are heavy going and I slow right down. As a whole it depends on circumsatnce - I never seem to have enought time, but I guess it can range from anything between 0 - 300.

But the best answer for me would be, that no matter how much I manage to read, it's never enough

Depends on how good the book is. I haven't read any more than 200 in a long time though. The book has to really grab my attention. 100 pages seems to be a stretch nowadays though. I'm on the internet a lot more often than I should be.

For me, it's difficult to judge, as I'm often working on several different things at a time. For example: right now, for simply reading, I'm working on Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard, by Kiran Desai. But at the same time, I'm working on an issue of Lovecraft Studies, which is in minuscule print, and often gets into very abstract issues, searching analyses, etc., so it takes a bit more time to absorb (at those times). I'm also working on some literary research of my own, and that often requires not only the primary source material, but various things connected with it; in this case, it's a poem which requires me to go back to various sources on Greek and Roman mythologies, several things in encyclopedias, bits from Chaucer, Shakespeare, Pope, Keats, and some sections of The Spectator. And perhaps some other things I'm not yet aware of, to boot. Now, that's for today. As a result, the only ones I've any real idea about how much I've read in them are the Kiran Desai (105 pages) and the source material (just over a page), and the articles in LS (13 double-column, small print pages). As for the rest: I'd figure probably in the neighborhood of another 50-60 pages. And then there's the writing, which also requires going through as editor.....

On the other hand, I've been known to finish The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings (together) in three days. Recently I read the entirety of Arthur Ransome's Elixir of Life in an afternoon -- over 300 pages. Other times, I barely get past 50; occasionally not that much.

Still, on the average, I'd estimate somewhere around 200-250 pages a day....

Show off :p

Haha...I can't help myself. Sorry J.D.

Hmm...well I don't particulary have an average...Sometimes I can read an entire book in a day because I can't put it down, other times I just don't have the chance to read as much as I like and can only grab a couple of pages. It makes the day difficult to get through if I don't have my daily fix of reading, though, even if it's only one or two pages...it's better than nothing, that's for sure!

Well, after saying that yesterday, I've had a bit of reading spree today and read 166 pages! Oh, it was so enjoyable...it's good to be back into the reading seat once again! :D

It really depends on the moment. At least 150 pages a day if I don't have much time *Dear Lord, why just 24 h a day:(* but can be multiplied by X *Never really count but as an exemple I've read Harry Potter 2, 3 and 4 in one night, I didn't slept at all, but "ça en valait la peine"* ;)

It depends on the book for me. If I find a very good book, then there's a fair chance that I'll finish half of it in the space of one night. If it's not one that completely holds my interest, though, then I won't read as much of it in one go. I guess that holds true for a lot of people, though.
