'Jaime Lannister sends his regards'...*stab*

I'm not a big UnCat fan but THAT WOULD BE COOL!

Could it have been Ramsay Snow?

Winterfell was already taken. Theon was already a prisoner. Catelyn saw the skin either at Riverrun or on her way to The Twins. I seem to recall, that when Jaime and Rose dined, Ramsay was already in contol of Bolton's forces in the North.

I think Ramsay may have had time to ride hard and meet his father in the south. The seperate betrayals of Winterfell and Robb needed to be discussed and the future of the Bolton ascendency over the North needed to be coordinated more precisely.

Roose may have sent Ramsay, whom no Stark would recognize, in to kill Robb and to pass on Jaime's message. A possibility...

I think possibly unlikely. Remember by that point that Victarion's forces were in control of Moat Cailin, and Ramsey may not have been able to slip past them southwards. Also, Ramsey may be hoping for Roose to meet a sticky end in the assault on Moat Cailin from the south, so he needs to stay in the North and run things. Nice idea, but I don't think Ramsay was there.

This is going to sound really silly, considering he'd already betrayed his king, fallen in with his mortal enemies and helped plan his death - But the fact that Roose himself killed Robb (something i didn't twig/forgot until reading this thread) really affects my liking of him.

Actually, now that you mention it D.E. it moves him up a notch for me. It would seem to be the least dastardly way of betraying your liege.....If yer gonna betray him to his death at least have the decency to stab him yourself. Gotta count for something right?

Bwahahaha...too bad my boss is in DC and Im in Oman....

This is all interesting and all and I know we are all filling in our time waiting for ADWD to be able to discuss soemthing new, but does iot really matter who actually stabbed Robb.

I mean, if GRRM wanted to make it a bing deal, I think he would of likely been more explicit and actually said who it was. A mysterious dark knight in a pink cape adds to the drama of the scene and nothing more. (Although, I would of chosen another colour than pink). Unless Stoneheart knows who it was and decides to go after them, and we won't ever get that story because GRRM has confirmed there will not be any POV from an undead character, then it has no real bearing on the rest of the story. Robb is dead and the Northern army is broken and scattered below the Neck. Arya and Sansa were not there and have no idea who killed Robb and the only way they would know is if Stoneheart told them. Wouldn't that be nice family reunion. Kind of like Thanksgiving dinner at my house...

I've been thinking and I reread the last two pages of this thread.

I'm going to compare the Red Wedding to the sack of King's Landing by the Lannisters. Well, just insofar as who actually did the nasty work of the killing of important persons...

At KL, it was chaos. For Robert to be secure on the throne all the Targs had to die. But getting inside KL and the Red Keep would require a major fight or betrayal. The Lannisters tricked the Targs and turned on them once inside... the biggest betrayal was that of Jaime Lannister killing the king he swore to protect. Fast forward seventeen years or so, the Martells are still in the dark about who actually killed Elia and her children. Sure they've heard the rumors, but they'll either have to settle for the justice that Tywin (the orchestrator of the slaughter) doles out to them or they'll have to fight Tywin (not a pretty prospect).

At the Twins, it was tense. For Joffrey to be secure on the throne all the Starks had to die. But getting close to Robb would require a major fight (and the Lannisters had lost every time to him) or betrayal. The Lannisters bought the Freys and the Boltons into murdering Robb at a wedding... the Freys broke a major taboo by killing their guests and Roose Bolton broke a major taboo by killing his liege lord. If we could fast forward seventeen years, we might find Robb's son, Sansa, and Jon demanding justice from Tommen, Roose and Tyrion, but they'll have to settle for the Freys as scapegoats for the whole thing... because Roose will say "I was not there, I was fighting the Lannisters... Only after Robb's death did I take up leadership in the North... all I did was for the realm." And Tommen will say "Lord Tywin in no way was connected to the Freys. Lord Walder did all that on his own initiative out of a desire for vengeance and a way to ingratiate himself to the throne... he hoped to be made Lord of the Riverlands. And Robb's son, Brynden, Jon, Sansa, and the rest will either have to swallow that load of crap or go to war.

So, I think Lord Tywin purposefully let the Freys play the part of Jaime, i.e. caught red handed. But just like the Mountain's and Amory Lorch's parts in the sack of KL, Roose Bolton's and the Lannister's parts could be clouded up and covered up over the coming years.

I do find it interesting that when Roose invited Brienne and Jaime to sup with him in Harrenhal we had the three known Kingslayers sharing a meal.
