System Lords

Well, if Nirrti was anything to go on, I'm all for Hindu goddesses! Nirrti's great! I loved her! :alienooh:  :rolly2:

Well, Apophis is obviously the arch-enemy of SG-1 but I'd like to see an Osiris SL as he was pretty much second to Ra in Ancient Egypt as I recall (but I'm probably wrong!!!) but he was pretty important. Don't know why they knocked Sokar off so quickly, thought he was a cool character.

Also, an Unas System Lord could be interesting (who would be NOTHING like Boss Nass though! lol!)

Hey, welcome, KingKnitz! Have you ... erm... seen series 4 yet?

No I haven't I have just seen the end of series 3. Should be getting the start of s4 on DVD next week but I just saw a trailer for sn ep. called 'The Curse' - is that something to do with it?

Didnt Sokar take on the role of Satan?
In many of the major religions there are concepts of good and evil, and typically an ultimate deiological representation of these characteristics, e.i. God and Satan (the devil).

What has also happened is that in a number of cases religions over-lapped, or at least their cultures did: Greeks and Romans for example. Various Christian and Egyptian characteristics can also be closely matched to these personas.

Uh, re-reading the question: (ignoring the possibilities of dates not matching up - I think the film implies Ra arrived a LOT earlier than current thinking believes Egyptian, or even the preceding Sumerian civilisations from which it developed) the local populations had a series of religious icons, and the incoming Goa'uld came in and took up their places, simply assuming the various characters as a result of their infinitely superior technology. So, "Ra" was an alien with another name who took on the position of deity Ra.

So, I can't recall if there was a Sokar in Egyptian religion, who had the Satan role in more modern beliefs, or if that is his "real" name?

Sokar wasn't really Satan, I think that would be more Apophis. Sokar was closely linked with Osiris (in mythology), in that he was a funerary god, and altho he was the god of "darkness and death", he wasn't really malevolent; there were other gods that were worse, namely Apophis and Seth, at times. And he was also patron of goldsmiths! ;)

I was only quoting Daniel who said he (Sokar) was the original Satan... but maybe he isn't a knowledgeable source... ;) ;) ;)

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was yelling. :) I like the way they've tried to keep the mythology correct, and don't just make up random stuff to suit their time and needs though.
