RangerOne SG13 SOR

I found this episode so naff...
How and why would those aliens place a crystal skull of which is human shaped and obviously not thiers on Earth. Also why did it only work the once with Daniels Grandpa??

It would suggest previous Earth contact by this species but there was no link between the skull and the aliens. Like I said a naff episode. A nice idea but not enough facts, basically it was all about Daniel and his grandpa finding each other again ( which was nice aaaw)

;P

I think it worked only once with Nic because it had to be in the room where he found it to work. You know all those 'nintendos' had to be present first to coalesce around the skull so pretty like. <G>

I agree with Myth. Nick tried for ages to get it working again, but it never worked because of the positioning of the skull. It had to be placed on the pedestal to be in alignment with the nutrino emissions (like in the giant pyramid on P-something-X-whatever). Same thing happened when Rothman tried to get the skull to work (or tried to prove it didn't work) after Daniel 'disappeared' (back at the SGC).

As for the aliens...
Well, at the beginning, Daniel referred to the pyramid as being similar to the Mayan or Aztec pyramids in Central America. When he saw the Crystal Skull, he told everyone that his grandfather, Nick, found a similar one in Belize (which is located in Central America also). That indicates that the 'aliens' both Nick and SG-1 saw were most likely of either Aztec or Mayan origin and probably were believed to be the ancient peoples' gods.

It was just a link they threw in - and to leave Nick there with the aliens, that just left an opening for a future storyline where all the questions could be given answers.

Because it was written in the script.
My guess is that they wanted something that would make Nic sound even more looney than people thought he was. "The big aliens." type of thing sounds more delusional.

Another thought, Daniel has a high security clearance (which you only get when they x-ray your live inside out) and yet they didn't know about Nick?????

I'm sure someone knew about Nic. It just wasn't germaine to his getting a clearance. If everyone who had a member of their family in a mental ward was denied clearances, probably about half the people who currently have clearances wouldn't.

That's not the point, it's that they acted ALL SO surprised that he had a grandfather...
But I guess it's just another mark on my 'the annoying things writers mess up' list...it's getting longer each season

I could believe that they would be surprised,I mean he wouldnt necessarily talk to his teammates about him and they certainly wouldnt be handed his dossier for some bed-time reading material. I would assume the material relating to his security check background would be need to know only,Security Goon Types need only apply. As far as how well his teammates would know him,I worked for years with my boss as I never had the need to mention that my Grandmother was a twin and died on the same day as her,it just hasnt been relevant. (and I only mention that about my grandmother here to illustrate my point or else you all wouldnt know either *grin*)

Major Carter

I agree, in a way, BUT...the need to know would certainly apply for his CO...which would be Jack!!!

Security clearance material isn't handed out to everyone to read as SPF suggested. In some cases, the material is sealed after it's compiled and very few people have access to it. 'Need to know' isn't determined by those with the need to know, but by those who determine who needs to know.

BUT... a CO NEEDS to know the background of his team, specially in a special forces unit...!!!

Jack doesn't have control over what he needs to know. Someone entirely different decides these things. I am willing to bet that there are things in Jack's background that even Hammond doesn't know because it isn't considered necessary information.

A great episode one of my favourite of series 3....
I love the part when Nick says "Jack don't be an ass" I can't wait to watch this ep on TV (Only about 10 weeks and i will)

I love the scene in the infirmary, when Jack falls out of the bed and Teal'c picks him up and tosses him back on the bed.
This actor who plays Nick - Jan Rubes, his name sound Czech to me. Does anybody know something about him? I found only his filmography at IMDb.
