Haha here's a good one

I really can't remember the film that well but didn't they tell the Abydonians to bury the gate? Why was this. If it was because

1) to stop earth sending through a nuke i accept your argument.

if it was not for that then why bury it?

either way burying would not work if it was to stop them sending through a nuke as has been discussed else where (the event horizon would still form unless the gate ring was somehow prevented from turning.)

I think that it is worth it, pissing off potential enemies (Tollan, Asgard etc) After all the Asgard seem a lot less stronger after the series 3/4 finales/starters.....

The Abydonians put somehting in front of the gate to stop earth from doin whatever...... But wouldn't the bubble just eat out at the rubble? So a person could just walk through the Gate?

I believe that the idea behind the Abydonians burying the Gate was to indicate to TPTB that the Gate had been destroyed by Jack setting off the bomb and then retreating back through the Gate before it went off. It's mentioned in CotG, that they sent a probe through right after he returned and that it was crushed.

Cheers,

which of course is wrong. If the wormhole opened then there would be space from the "swoosh effect". If the wormhole did not open then couldn't send through the probe. Incosistency :)

WEAPONS, YEAH!!!

There is nothing like good, solid (preferably sharp) weaponry!!! What are your favorite weapons from the series (plural)?

The point of a coverstone can be for two purposes: To stop someone from coming through the Stargate after a wormhole has been activated, and to stop a wormhole being activated in the first place.

If you simply place it over, then if it is within 3 microns of where the event horizon forms, then it perhaps stop the whoosh effect (the iris is sometimes closed when a wormhole is engaged, although it may just survive because it is made of a Titanium-Trinium alloy). It may be that the whoosh effect is only dangerous a certain distance from the gate, although this is unlikely. We have seen a bit of the ramp inside the ring when a wormhole is activated so presumably a certain amount of matter inside the ring not only doesn`t stop the wormhole from activating but also survives the activation.

The way it can stop a wormhole being activated in the first place is by placing a large amount of matter inside the ring. I`m not sure of the technical side of it but this presumably stops the formation of the extradimensional conduit (the wormhole) by simply not giving it the space to activate.

One explanation for the Abydonian coverstone is that they used Naquadah to make the coverstone, which would make it almost indestructible. I also think they mentioned in CotG that they sent a probe through and it was crushed, so the Naquadah coverstone probably stopped the kawoosh from expanding and survived to stop the MALP coming thru.

Phew my brain is all thought out, that`s enough of that now.
