Anyway, get yourself set for fun!

the next episode at my place is "apophis' return" ... the title of the episode sounds very very good :)))

If you think waiting for Season 4 stinks, think about waiting for Season 5!

Geronimo, Hi1,

I wonder what the Season and episode number are because in English that is not one of the titles I am familiar with. Heard about 'interesting' translations ~ as in problems ~ with other episodes and wondering if German (Are you receiving in German or French in your section of Austria?)
can be as difficult as other languages to translate into from slangy American English?

Texane,

We haven't finished with the twenty-two episodes of season 4 and you want season 5! Whoa, and I though I was impatient and wanted my SG-1 fix!

Hang On There!

We haven't even finished season 4 (In fact we are now in Re-runs) and you want to jump to season 5! Mercy, hang on to your hat kiddo, it will get here soon enough.
Question? How do they translate the show into different languages?

The foreign tv stations buy the american shows and then i think just translate them themselves (dub them). The problems probably arrise when a team of translaters does not stay on 1 show the whole time and people come onto it who have not watched that many episodes before. but i think that is how it is done. How they translate Jack's sarcasm and puns i don't know, i am sure a lot of it it lost. I know someone who is fluent in french and english who says the french translations of friends are just appaling, almost 90% of the jokes are lost.

hi'ya jsc !

you're right -- the original title of the episode i'll see next wednesday is "the devil u know" ...

i translated the title from a german TV broadcaster homepage (www.rtl2.de) that's why i translated it "apophis' return" instead of the real title ..

c'Ya

Hmm...... So how you guys are now in reruns? How many after Beneath the Surface did you guys get to watch?

We got 14 New shows then reruns on Showtime (US and maybe some of Canada).

Thanks, Geronimo,
I was curious! Everyone seems to get Titles that reveal everything when the series gets dubbed! But there are a lot of Apophis fans in Austria and that is why the title was changed! It is fun to see my favorite snake in actions again!

All Apophis fans should go to Vera's post with the interview with (y'all are going to kill me) how do you spell the writer's name Matt____ (oh, jeez - it is just too late . . .). Apophis is just getting out of hand!!!

Tell me about it! Many Jack's remarks like "For crying out loud" and "Ya think?" are lost in the czech translation. Many jokes are lost too 'cause it's difficult to translate them. And we talked about the "translation" od the end of the ep. "Solitudes" before... :(

That is a great explanation of what happens, Vera. Humor is especially hard to translate as it often relies on cultural context and knowledge and the puns are even harder!
