The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym (1838), by E. A. Poe
My favorite horror novel is Dracula by Bram Stoker. It is surprisingly good, even after all this time, not like Frankenstein, which is extremely stodgy. I picked Dracula up one day just on a lark and found myself reading through to the end. The characters are engaging, the story suspenseful. Definately worth a check.
