ABOUT SAM

who ain't just there to a) be someone's girlfriend
b) to fill out her wonderbra
c) get killed so the hero can go get the bad guy (course that's what we had shau'ri for )

YEAH!!! I made mention of that in another post, and jsc told me I was being naughty - flaming - 'cause I said that Jack really liked Sam because she kept his bu__ out of a sling!

I wonder how long it takes Amanda Tapping to memorize the tech lines so she can reel them off?

i seem to remember her saying that's one reason she gets to technobabble...cause she can. seems it is quite a skill to rattle off 14 syllable words and sound like you know what you're saying

The aspect of Sam that I like best is that she is totally her own woman, totally in charge of herself, never either weak nor overbearing, totally able to kick ass with the best of 'em, but never loses her feminity. All too often, on tv and movies, the 'strong woman', even if beautiful, is overbearing. And you'll never see Sam trip while running away from danger like most tv shows have the woman do! Man, I hate that!

You hate that? Go back to season one and see how her character was treated. I'm glad to see the changes in how her character is presented . . . even if she does like the taste of diet coke with her 4 steaks, rare!

well if you ignore all the shippy parts(and i think getting jack & sam a sig other that isn't each other will cure that) she's not just 'the girl' anymore. i mean in season 1 they almost started the 'yeah i'm the girl which means i'm the one that keeps getting in trouble and needs to be rescued' plot hole, with emancipation & 1st commandment...but the soon got it to it was the boys getting in trouble and she was pretty much staying out of trouble or having to get them out of trouble. case in point, jack eating the cake & ageing in brief candle, danny & shyla in need, the whole team having to bail teal'c out in cor-ai, and on and on...even in holiday she was the one that kept her hands to herself and didn't get body switched(though that would have been a total scream!:D )
with the exception of jolinar, she's pretty much stayed out of trouble and been the fixer...

all of which she's done without getting (no offense to ANYONE) too butch or pushy and still acting like a woman...just a totally capable woman.

I concur with Sky.

And I have to say that, unlike many of our members, I like the manner in which the "shippy" parts have been handled - not too much, and over a four season period of time. Actually, it is us, the fans, who seem to be making much more of the shipper stuff than is actually being shown on the series.

I hope the writers keep things as they are - one or two shippy epys during a season and, on the last epy (not any time soon, of course), Sam just decides she'll go fishing.

i don't mind the moments or the random looks, it's just when they cram it in our faces like in d&c or those bits during beneath the surface that get on my nerves...i do agree with you though, in the last eps it'll probably just be a meaningful look or her going fishing...there is talk of a movie and the last thing you want is to establish a 'relationship' in the last eps that you then have to deal with in a movie or sequel series...but keeping it open to interpretation leaves their options open

The best way to have the shipper moments is the way they have been doing most of it. Just little hints, mostly under the surface. Just enough to keep our tension up as we wonder what will happen. To have it to open would actually ruin the show.

Personally I like the character of Sam because she is such a strong independent woman who is not afraid of being a woman. She is competent and gets her job done.

Same reason I like Janet. She is also that in control person who knows what she is doing.

I have to agree, I think people will read into things what they want. I'm a shipper, I admit, but I love the way they are handling the whole thing. It doesn't make Sam any less of a woman to have feelings for Jack. Its a natural thing.....plus I also think that Jack is more obvious about the whole thing than Sam.

jack is definitely more obvious about it all, especially the first part of season 4...then things seemed to have calmed down a bit...i for one think all sam would have to do is say yes and he'd ...well, you know.

and i noticed, before i found fan fic, i really didn't see anything too horriby shippy in season 1 or the first part of season 2...it was after i started reading fic that i started seeing what the shippers did...

then again, some folks see a slash relationship between various members...and i just don't...all a matter of perception i guess.

yes, I think I know what you mean ;)

I never actually noticed the shippy stuff when I first started watching the series, and when I really got into watching it, thats when I started to notice. Now when I look back to season 1 & 2 I notice it a lot more.

And reading fic makes you see things that probably aren't there but you wish were!! LOLOL

In the first season, O'Neill wasn't too thrilled with having a scientist put on his team that he didn't pick!

I also think the writers were busy transferring between actors (O'Neill and Jackson) from the movie to the series - their "personalities" were more like the actors in the movie, at first, until the series became grounded, and the writers could mold the characters more toward forwarding the series itself. And since Sam wasn't in the movie, it took a little while to get her character in the mainstream with the original team members.

Just a few thoughts. :rolly2:

Oh, and I agree with carkedit - Jack is more obvious.

The epy (I'm terrible with the names) that SG-1 found the alien adictive light device (kid still there after parents dead), when O'Neill handed another team member $20. to give to Daniel because Jack had lost the bet about Sam chosing to go to the site with Daniel -hilarious!:D

LOL..strangely enough its called - The Light

I thought that whole scene was great, minus the guy killing himself of course...gee, I love scenes like that...

i love those camraderie moments that unfortunatley seem to show up more in fic than on the show...to me THAT is how friends and co-workers of 4 years should act...

I agree....for 4 people to work that closely with each other, foor that long, I would expect nothing less.....
