i'll concede that sam can and does go over the top once in a while...then again so does jack.
i think it's more of a 'family' unit now and she feels more comfortable being casual.
and...if you watch enemy within, right at the beginning when jack &kawalsky are arguing, notice the look sam exchanges with george...they seem to know each other. and this was before the whole jacob thing. course in hindsight, george probably knew her growing up, at least a casual relationship. this would make her a bit more confident in acting a little freerer...then compare how she acts in chain reaction with bauer...imagine if hammond were to instruct her to make the bomb...she'd probably have reacted stronger than she did with bauer.
we've also seen her familiarity with another general in prodigy...i think she has several friends in high places.

to me the familiarity with hammond and now with jack, along with pretty much being earth's expert on the gate gives her a confidence to push the regs envelope a bit...

Something to ponder: If Amanda Tapping decided to leave the show, who would be best suited to replace her? A friend of mine suggested Katherine Bell ("JAG")
as a new Sam, possibly because she's already established in a military role. Have to admit she's a good pick, but no one else comes immediately to mind. Opinions?

Wow this thread has started to get a bit political....Guy vs Girl.....why don't we just say that Stargate is just the best darn show on TV for all sorts of reasons.
Sorry for starting a thread that has stirred the nest so to speak.....although a healthy disagreement never hurt anyone did it???.

You're absolutely right, healthy disagreement never hurt anyone. In fact, this string was getting quite boring with most of the posts from women gushing over "Jack, Jack, Jack..." .

Thats when I posted "Tapping a male point of view" and your string started to heat up. Then things got interesting. Everyone came out of the woodwork with an opinion - and I enjoyed reading them ALL! Good for you for starting the string and good for everyone else for coming out with such great and varied reasons why they LOVE Stargate SG1.

There's no reason to let up on this topic because there are still many to be heard from and we'll still be reading their posts.

If anyone is interested in a topic that needs more HEAT. Take a look in "Stargate Conspiracy Theories" at "Conspiracies in Secrets" and read my posting " New Conspiracy Theory". I'm looking for feedback on this subject and I don't care if its positive or negative. JUST READ IT!...... gfps

you wanna start a thread that's gonna make people mad...go for the sam/jack, ship/non-ship or slash.non-slash...people get way too volitile about those...personally i hope amanda never leaves...i mean i love jack but i adore sam...she's the reason i kept watching and...well i started writing fic cause there just wasn't enough out there with her in it...

now in the tragic circumstances...i'd vote for tracey needham...she was in season 1 of jag and is in a live time series right now...though i don't care for her present hair cut...she's got that ...mommy i played with the scissors do but..she her character on jag was a lot like sams...way too smart blond...

From your reply I deemed it pointless to respond again. No offense intended; it's just that you didn't see what I was saying, and without going into a psycho-philosophical discussion thoroughly ill-suited to this forum, I could not explain myself better.

So, I understand the points you made, I agree with them (mostly), but I still stand by my post. It has just been a little misinterpreted.

to me sam is very much a role model.

and that is part of what keeps me watching the show.

i like her actions and reactions in Hathor, singularity, solitudes, line of duty, etc

i am also interested in her career;

ie; i'd b quite happy if in twenty years time, i WAS sam carter!!
