after finishing collecting season 1 on tape, i've started on season 2, and the new opening credits are really cool
so much better than the ones we are stuck with just now, on sky 1 season 4 is still using the old credits, why?...peachy

i'm not sure what you're talking about. i've only seen two types of opening credits. the first is a pan of the mask and it's used for the showtime version of the show, the second is a montage of scenes from season 1 & 2 and it's used for the syndication versions of the show.

the only one i've seen is the pan of the mask, so the one on the season 2 tapes is new to me, it starts of with the gate, then shows a little of each charactor, even hammond, it's so much better. but then after 4 seasons of the same old thing anything would be better
...peachy

Yep, I know exactly what you mean, and I agree, and I have no idea why they haven't changed the credits on TV, or why they have on vid. Just thought I'd mention that....

What?????? We've only ever had one version of the opening credits, with the pan of the mask - it always annoyed me, because most shows have something more interesting. I had no idea there were other versions - we've never had anything different in any of the 4 seasons!

The pan of the mask is BORING...the other credits certainly make the show look far more interesting to someone who just happens to turn the tv on at the time they are showing...think about it...if you saw the pan of the mask as you were switching channels..would you stay tuned to see what it is?

Well, this is probably wishful thinking, but I'm sure when I saw it in Belgium, it stilll had the pan out fo the mask, but it panned out a bit further, and you got to see the edge of it's face/earrings etc. Which is remotely better than not changing at all I s'pose...

i was expecting a new opening credits for the guys in the u.s. who are getting s3 on syndication. ih well, the two we have are great anyway :)

I like the series 2 opening credits, they do make the show look more interesting, and certainly fit the fact that the programme's Sci-Fi. With the bits with each character, they only have the ones mentioned on the original title sequence, but it looks netter then all the Egyptian stuff, which btw, was kind of the same thing as the beginning of the film, when the title of 'Stargate' is shown.

G'point. Also, I love the way that the clips fit the music really well, especially the end bit.

i'm not sure what you get but here the opening credits on showtime are of the mask, but series a year behind on syndication on fox has the opening credits of all the different pictures--which is way better!

While i agreet that the "mask" opening credit doesnt have much action to it, i do like it better than the syndication "action" opening credits... for one thing, the actors have changed so much they dont even look the same... and its way too long... most shows change the opening credits a little year by year as the characters change..

the mask, with that great and short theme music, leaves me curious as to its origins, and a little haunted as to its power...

I'm confused - all I've ever seen at the beginning is a montage of characters - it's changed a couple of times but has never been just a mask that I can remember.

new opening

i know the two that you're talking about :)

i prefer the second one, as i like the action shots

i don't see any pattern in when they are using the different ones though

the only place i've seen the new one is on the season 2 and 3 dvds

also the action is in time with the music, which is cool!

Showtime's opening theme is just a slowing panning shot of a mask/face, with that great music. It is very powerful in it's simplicity. The syndicated version is the more action oriented. For one thing, the Showtime episodes are only 43-45 minutes long, so the syndicated shows are stretched a bit for commercial time (I guess). Although, I have seen episodes edited so that some scenes are shortened, while the opening intro is stretched. That is tv editing for you!

spookypumkin,
I agree! It is very cool how the action is in time with the music, especially the last few seconds. That death glider crashes and bursts into flames EXACTLY in time with the music, and then the very last scene, as the wormhole disengages, the music ends.
I personally conduct each opening intro, you know!

i agree. i like the syndicated version better but they should update the clips of the actors.

So they haven't up-dated with the characters? thats a pity. I like it on the new ones where you can see that the clips are S1, as I noticed one from Torment Of Tantalus, with the lightning strike, the music totally fits.
And I agree that the exploding death glider from 'COTG' is good at the end. The theme in itself still fits within the general idea of the show, even though it has gone far beyond its origins as just egyptian mythology, as the S1 titles make it out to be.

The character shots have been updated this past year as both Michael and Amanda are shown with their new "shorn lock look"

they do? my syndi credits consist of season 1 & 2 shots...the only season 2 one i see actually is sam going balistic in the gateroom in itlod.

if you look close they start with the briefing from enemy within, and kawalski is in it...so a dead character is in the credits every week...
