Gotta admit, I love the Watch and Sam Vimes as a diplomat ("You told him that if the troops were not withdrawn then he, the ambassador, would be going home in an ambulance"). Don't read them in public, though.

Why not? I got a whole seat to myself for a 45 minute bus ride by rereading a Pratchett novel; and I wasn't even frothing at the mouth.

Occasionally breaking up in unrestrained laughter for no immediately obvious reason can have a very salutary effect on social interactions.
