Aussie Stargaters

Allan, I hope you like pollies and bureaucrats or do you leave town all year round????? Hahahahahahaha:D

Shortea, Tamworth is UNFORTUNATELY known as the Country Music Capital of Australia - Australia's Nashville. We have a festival every January, which now goes almost all month. It's the worst possible time of the year because it is stinking hot and buckets down with rain alot of the time (it's our traditional flood month).

I do get away every year during the worst of it. I find it almost impossible to run my business and luckily it coincides with the Courts shutting down and most of my clients (including the ones in Canberra and Sydney) also going on holidays because they can't do any Court work when the Court's are shut, of course.

Shortea, so that you don't need to ask, I'm an attorney but I only do work for other attorneys.

I HATE COUNTRY MUSIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most people in Tamworth do. We've just been saddled (haha, pun!) with this huge marketing exercise.

And honestly, I don't mind being known as mad  :upto: :naughty:

american country music in an australian country town is

APPALLING AND AWFUL AND TERRIBLE AND PATHETIC AND etc etc etc

Trust me I've lived here for 16 years.

I know.

I'm not the biggest country music fan in the world... some is OK... But then, I can say the same about other types of music as well.

To explain the bit about the politicians... I live in Canberra... The place where all of those idiots that run the country gather and talk about how to screw the country up even more.

It is a nice place though, I don't mind it. And Tamworth is a nice place as well.... Sometimes nice places have really annoying things.

Allan, are you a native of Canberra or have you moved there from somewhere else?

I actually quite like Canberra apart from that awful cold wind that blows off the Brindabellas.

I love Questacon. So do the kids. I'm admitted to appear in the High Court but haven't. The War Memorial. The Art Gallery. The Library. Parliament House. Lake Burley Griffin. Great places.

But not the shops or Civic. Hahahaha. Hmmm, not Canberra's highlights.

I might be down there in July. Jim's in the Cubs and we're going skiing for a week in July. We'll probably take the chance to do the usual sites of Canberra (besides we get into Questacon for nix because we're members of the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney)

I agree 100%:D

I live in America and unbeknownst to many living here is not a picnic. Wherever there is good, bad will always be lurching near.

music

So what kinda music you you guys like?
I love anything but rap!

C-YA!!
Shortea
:) :rain:

Music !!!!!

There is a lot I like... My favorite would have to be good 'ol Rock and Roll, and I don't mind sitting down with a bit of classical every now and then, especially classical soundtracks.... Anything by John Williams (the composer, not the country artist)... I like a hell of a lot of types of music.... There's just some country and house/rap that annoys me to tears.

Cat, If you are coming to Canberra, especially to Questacon, we should get together... My kids would love to see questacon (That's right.. live here, and never taken the kids !!!!!!!)

I'm not born in Canberra.... actually Queanbeyan....

AND NO THAT"S NOT IN CANBERRA :angryfire .... It's actually about 1 inch over the ACT border in NSW... But it's NSW just the same... LOL

Allan, I would never have said that about Queanbeyan!

And I'll keep you posted about July. It'd be great to do Questacon together. I think the kids would probably enjoy it more with other children. I know you have a littlish one, how old are the other(s)?

I have a 2 year old and a 7 year old..... both very loud boys !!!!!! :errrr:

Hahaha...I have a almost 8 year old daughter and a 10 year old son. I know about the noise. Oh, yes, I know about the noise. Why don't they have a volume control???????????

Cat, you have to go to the new Museum of Australia as well, it's AWESOME!!!
Questacon has all these new things, your kids will love it. They also did a huge refurbishment of the air hall in the War Memorial. It has heaps of new stuff. There will be plenty of things for you to do!
They have done Civic up a bit since you were last here. it's not a bad as it used to be.

ps. the winters aren't THAT cold (not). It's only april and already its freezing :(

Shelby, You're not from Canberra are you ?

Here's a quick pic from BOBW with my buddy Peter... Just ignore the guy on the right. (finally got my film developed.)

I don't believe you two. Both of you in Canberra....

Shelby, thanks for the info. It's been awhile since we were there.

And don't think I had forgotten about you. We have to meet you too! And if it's before BOBW ALL THE BETTER!!!

We're in Jindabyne from 15 july to 20 july. So we'd be spending time in Canberra in the week before that (so that it's in school holidays).

Shelby, will you be in Canberra then? Say yes! Please!

allan, you know i live in canberra. we've spoken about it before down in the aussie forum just before bobw11.

anyway, yes cat i will be in canberra then. i've lived here almost all my life. I love canberra! it's the greatest! :D

Jindabyn is a great place. all my dad's family is from the snowy country. we have alot of history there. the murray river was in fact named by my great, great, great, great, great someone- or-other.

I like just about all kinds, but the stuff with profane lyrics. My favorite is Gospel/Christian, because it's music for the soul.

I have to log out. My server is being a pain in the mikta. In a big way. This is about my fifth connection this morning and I could walk to Canberra and talk to you face to face faster than this bl**dy connection.

It's probably revenge for me raking them over the coals about over-charging me and having me on the wrong plan when they knew damn well I'd changed (oh, I could go on forever about this). Almost went to ozemail. argh!! Peter wanted to go to bigpond. double argh!!! What a sh***y bunch of isp's we have available to us in regional NSW.

Anyway, I was going to say that we probably should start pm'ing this stuff otherwise the Moderator Dude might shut us down (even though he's in on it, hehe) :D

Thanks, Allan for the move. I must admit coming in and seeing that i am listed as having started a thread i couldn't remember threw me a bit :D I thought "hey, I was only joking about the alzheimers!!! honest!!!".
