New B5 Tv movie

Ah yes, the movie, it is suppose to air this fall on the SciFi channel here in the US.
The title of the telemovie is "To Live and Die in Starlight". It is suppose to lead into a spin-off show Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers. It is suppose to take place just under 3 years after the events in "Objects at Rest". So it will be set late in 2265 what would have been B5's 8th season if they had had one.

A good site to check out for more info on the movie/series is
www.b5rl.com

I also posted a thread which lists the characters and cast for the movie/series.

From what I have heard we are suppose to see more G'Kar as well.
:D :D :D

Also during the reruns of Dune on the SciFi channel they are going to make a special announcement and direct viewers to a "top secret web page". This is suppose to contain footage of G'Kar and David Martel.

The reruns of Dune on the US SciFi Channel take place June 12, 13, and 14 at 9PM ET/PT

If you find out about this site please tell me because I dont get cable here.:D

If I find out I will let you now. Wasn't planning on watching Dune but now I will have to tape it and then try to find this announcement.

No cable :( that's to bad. When I grew up we only got 2 channels, there still isn't cable out where I live but about 4 or 5 years ago I bought a satellite dish. Didn't know what to do at first with all those channels.

I didnt even know there WAS a Dune series....Im outta touch.

I can understand what you mean.I grew up with only 2 channels and then moved to an area with 5 and I was swamped....I could imagine what it would be like with 100's

Sl OT - Dune

I guess I date myself. To me, 'Dune' was a short story that got 'way outta hand back in the 60's when Frank Herbert was regularly getting himself thrown out of the Shakey's Pizza Parlor in the University District of Seattle, WA for getting drunk on beer, standing on the tables and making lewd comments about the staff while the rest of us made side bets on how long it would take Seattle PD to get there 'This' time.

I was a bit underage [around 15-16-ish] for the group I was a part of - "The Nameless Ones", an old and well established SF group in the Puget Sound area but that never seemed to slow any of us down. Other members of the Nameless that went on to some sort of fame were writer's Vonda McIntyre, Mildred Broxon [who co-wrote with Poul Anderson], F.M. Busby [bless the Dirty Old Man that he was and still is] and a couple of others who's names escape this old brain.

Ah... those were the 'Good Old Days' of fandom [late '50's - early 70's]. When fen were fen unless they were femfen, 'zines were either 4-color press or mimeos that were full of LoC's [Letters of Comment] about various books new in print [and you spent so much time fixing typos with corflu [correction fluid] you had a hangover the next day] and a good filk sing would last for three days running.

<sigh> Like I said. The Good Old Days. How I do miss them.

And watching Frank fall off of pizza tables.

;)

someone asked me who i would choose in a fight between Ivanova and Lockley, i'd choose Ivanova, cos she was the original tough girl, and she ruled B5...

I'd have to go with Ivanova too. Lockley is too "by the book" sometimes.

the site for the movie trailer is www.scifi.com/secret
I believe the site is only suppose to be available when Dune is on. Dune will air tonight, JUne 13th at 9 and 11PM EST and The 14th of June at the same times.

After having some computer problems I finally got to see the trailer for the movie! Can hardly wait for it to come out.

"We live for the one, we die for the one."
:D

I missed it.....Now your link leads to a Children of Dune interview.
Curses to myself about uninstalling RP last month.

New B5 Film.

The Sci Fi Channel has completed production on the update to the epic futuristic space series "Babylon 5," a two-hour TV movie called "Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers," creator J. Michael Straczynski told reporters at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, CA. on 10/07/01

The film, which takes places shortly after the series left off but a couple years before the "Babylon" spin-off "Crusade," stars Dylan Neal ("Dawson's Creek"), Myriam Sirois and "B5" regular Andreas Katsulas.

The film details the saga of the Ranger fleet as they attempt to restore order to hundreds of civilizations devastated by the Shadow War. If successful, the film will serve as a pilot for a potential new series on the cable network.

"Legend of the Rangers" is slated to air in January of 2002.

Is this a different film to the one you've been discussing (to Live and Die in Starlight)? Or is it just a change of title?

This one will be set before 'Crusade' and the series would be too, so don't look for any closure here.

Also, I would be worried about how safe 'B5' is the hands of the SciFi Channel considering what they did to 'Sliders' when they got hold of it.

I think a lot will depend on how much control JMS has over the project. If I understand correctly, a lot of the problem with Crusade was from network interference. TNT and JMS didn't see the show in the same way. TNT also had little understanding of what a sci-fi show is supposed to be.

Time will tell, I suppose.

This is the same movie that we have been discussing "To Live or Die in Starlight" Actually the way they explained it earlier was that Legend of the Rangers would be the title of the series if it happens and "to Live or Die in Starlight" would be the movie.

As to what happens it all depends on JMS involment in it. If he is involved and has control I think it will be good.

Crusades

In a brief discussion with JMS {I still sub to his alt.tv.B5 news group} there was no planned 'ending' for Crusades in the projected future. With 'B5:LotR' goming out, two other proposed TV shows in negotiations or almost ready for script write, plus a book, two comic book series, two columns he writers weekly and a slug of short stories, he just doesn't have the time on his plate to address it.

I haven't been to the 'Alternative Universe Today' [used to be called 'The Ranger Archives' when I wrote B-5 years ago] site for awhile [http://www.anxst.com/b5/ ], but I know they have some Crusades fiction archived there.

Yes, I know Joe's feelings and stand on fan fic, but it is 'still' out there and some of it is quite good. You might check out the site and see what you find.;)

JMS New TV Series

Okay... this just hit the newsgroup, so I'd thought I pass it on.

: Well, the moratorium on information is over now that MGM has announce the
: info
: at San Diego Comic Con (which, sadly, I can't attend due to the press of
: work).
:
: It was previously announced that I was writing the pilot 2-hour opener for a
: series entitled JEREMIAH. What was not known, though speculated about, was
: the
: show going to series. We got the go ahead right around the end of the year,
: though I've had to be kinda quiet about it until now.
:
: In brief: it's an order for 20 hours (the opening 2 hour movie and 18 hours
: to
: follow) for the Showtime Network. We start formal prep next Wednesday, and
: start shooting September 4th; after finishing the movie we then go right into
: shooting the series. We've hired all our crew, we're in the very last stages
: of casting (with several name actors up for various roles), and we're just
: about ready to rock.
:
: This is going to be a heavily dramatic series, character-oriented, with a
: measure of action and humor as well. Because this is pay cable, they've
: taken
: off the usual broadcast TV handcuffs and told me to take it to the wall
: creatively, no restrictions, so I plan to do just that.
:
: The series will debut on Showtime in January with a huge PR campaign. I
: still
: kinda have to wait for Showtime before I can talk specifics about others
: involved (writers, directors, cast, and so on). But in my view it's a
: terrific
: team, and it's going to be a fun show.

New series

Just pulled this from 'About.com' B-5 watch. The series has been formally announced as a go and he has two others in negotiation right now.

Straczynski Project Watch
Jeremiah (Updated 25 July 2001)
Joe Straczynski is executive producing a new series for Showtime based on Jeremiah, a popular European comic book. The story takes place 15 years after a virus kills everyone who has reached puberty. Several people have misinterpreted this story to sound like the Star Trek episode "Miri", but that is not the case. The surviving children age normally, so the story is about people in their late 20's and younger who grew up without adult supervision.

Showtime has ordered a two-hour pilot plus 18 one-hour episodes.

Formal pre-production is currently under way. The crew is completely assembled and the cast is almost complete. Shooting begins on the pilot on 4 September 2001 in Vancouver. Shooting on the 18 episodes will immediately follow the pilot and should be complete in late January or early February 2002.

Straczynski wrote the pilot and at least six additional scripts.

The series will debut in January 2002.

:D
