It's okay...... I accept that no hard feelings were intended! and up to a point I certainly do personally respect people's wishes to be left alone. I personally would never approach an actor even if he/she was sitting right next to me, but that's not because they're famous, it's because I don't think they're any different to or any better than me. they just happen to appear in a public and often a world wide forum.
You may or may not remember an actor called Peter Ustinov, he was rather famous in his day. I was in London one day travelling from camp to home for weekend leave, but had to wait a while for a connecting train, so I went to eat in a restaurant. I sat at a table for two and read while I ate, and after a while the waiter came over and asked if I minded if someone joined my table since the restaurant was packed. I said, no of course not, and this silver haired portly chap sat down, we chatted about the army and various things, and I kept thinking, I know this chap and it suddenly hit me that it was Peter Ustinov, but you know? I couldn't bring myself to ask him about movies or acting, I couldn't even bring myself to say "You're Peter Ustinov, the actor aren't you, I really admire your work". It sounded so darned intrusive somehow! I also once met Kenneth Branagh and our whole conversation was about the Gulf War. I wanted to tell him that I'd seen him in Shakespeare plays, but I didn't want to sound like a drooling idiot.
Go figure!
Yes, I agree about RDA, the same applies to him as to MS, but RDA doesn't seem to attend ANY conferences, so I'm more inclined to let that one go. At least he's egalitarian in his non-attendance. I don't know if MS monitors the internet, I think they probably all do. They wouldn't be human if they didn't want to know what people think of them. Once thing all actors have in common is a huge ego..... they wouldn't be in the profession if they didn't, and I speak as a former professional musician... no one had an ego bigger than mine. It comes with the turf. Actors have fans, actors like MS who appeal to a lot of people, have many fans, that also comes with the turf and the relationship is a two way street. If you as an actor don't want to do the time, then don't do the crime (i.e. don't be an actor!). If you want a less frenetic class of fan, then stick to the legitimate theatre, they tend to be older and less frenetic.
The connection between fan and star is a very tender thing. Whilst I agree it has to be treated and nurtured very carefully by the fan...... it also has to be treated very carefully and nurtured by the star, MS doesn't appear to have learnt that lesson and it's to be hoped that one day he doesn't turn around and find that the fans have lost interest. MS doesn't yet have a very solid acting profession background built up to fall back on, because he hasn't been doing it all that long yet.
Ah well, he's young and hopefully he will learn... in the meantime he has you lot to sustain him doesn't he?
