Data.

What Spot says...

Looking through some back issues of 'Star Trek Monthly' I realised that Spot has already answered the fans questions about his apparent change of sex and breed.

He says that Michael Westmore was still playing with ideas for his prosthetic make-up during this period and hadn't quite got it right yet -- he did the same thing with Worf and Odo and no one complains about that -- that's the reason he changed from a male Somali cat to a female housecat.

Originally, he thought he was going to be cast as a Vulcan, and was disappointed to be typecast as a cat again.

He never got on with Jonathan Frakes, the scratches in 'Timescape' were real. His one regret is that he never had a scene with Patrick Stewart, who he sees as a true professional.

And his ambition is to direct a Star Trek movie one day.

I think that he wanted to direct ST:X, but feels that it is probably a good thing; it took him years to finally get acting jobs off the Enterprise, that to immediately go back to Star Trek might not have been, professionally, the best thing to do. :)

You Guys are off your trolleys. Hehehehe!!!!!!!

annette :p

but if spot DID do the directing it'd be interesting to see
if he/she sees the world differently...

Spot says that he would try to bring out the alien point of view, and that he does feel more akin to the Klingon ideals than the human/ Federation ones.

He used to watch 'Star Trek: the original series' as a kitten, and it always struck him how the Cats depicted generally opposed the Federation. Like when the alien sorceress Sylvia transformed herself into a huge black cat in 'Catspaw' or the different agenda of Gary Steven's cat in 'Assignment Earth'.

It was a big breakthrough for minority rights when TNG decided to have a cat as a recurring member of the cast, and he his grateful to Rick Berman for giving him the part.

There would be some problems if he did try to direct though, looking through the camera, holding the megaphone.

He did write a script for ST:X but it was rejected. A member of a feline species travels back in time to prehistoric Earth and trie to change history so humans never evolved. The crew of the Enterprise must try and stop him -- Spot is torn between his feline heritage and loyalty to the Data. Real dramatic stuff!

Spot says that it is still the best job that he ever had. It can be difficult for a struggling actor in Hollywood, often he would have to take part-time work mousing just to be able to eat at all. He has been picky about the projects that he has chosen, and not eager to just do junk.

Most of Spot's scenes were with Data, of course. "It was a pleasure working with Brent (Spiner), he has such a wacky sense of humour", Spot says. They used to fool around all the time, sometimes he'd be curled up on the floor with laughter.

What does Spot do when he is not acting or directing? He likes to lie in front of the fire at home, and watch classics on television. He also sleeps a lot.

The scene in 'Generations' -- why exactly was Spot on the bridge when the Enterprise D crashed? He completely denies that he was attempting to get into Picard's ready room. "The fish were safe from me," he claims.

Just slightly off topic guys, yes I know Spot was Data's cat but wheres the info and interesting facts about Data.

annette :)

Spot is too much of a gentleman to say this himself, but his character MADE Data as popular as he was, without Spot Data was nothing.

And working so closely with Brent, he has all the inside gossip, but he just can't tell you any of that. (The wild milk-drinking parties!)

I suppose you're right in a way Dave. Spot was or is such a cutie puddy tat. Can't imagine what he got up to at those parties.

annette :D

You do realise that the 'evil twin' plot is one of the most overworking in SciFi. The only reason that that worked so well is that Brent Spinner is such a great actor. With any other actor for Data IMHO it would have been a disaster, and then we would have missed all those great Data/ Lore/ Noonian Soong episodes that followed.

lol

oh i loved those stories!
right now theyre repearting the whole searies 1......woow!

Hehehehe,

Brent Spinner produced a record called 'Old Yellow Eyes'. He used the TNG cast as backing vocals. He finally broke even on this album, so there's a good chance that he will do another one. What you may not know about is that Spot helped with the recording too. Spot is an accomplished DJ and just loves scratching.
