..."PS: I wonder if the quality of stargate would suffer if it was pimped from here till kingdom come by mgm just the way star trek is by paramount? would I want a jack o'neill action figure and a daniel jackson mug? sam socks? with the "masses" taking notice, would the show have to accustom to the "masses" taste? just musing ..."

Sam socks! I love it. RDA said he would not endorse action figures unless it was anatomically correct! I concur! :kisses:

Would the quality of the show suffer from trying to appeal to the masses? That's a good question. It just might galvanize the writers to put the characters in more interesting & compromising situations, allow them to make more judgement calls as Jack did in "The Other Side". As it is, many of the problems they work through have obvious solutions. Let's get some controversy going here!

I think Stargate is one of a few sci-fi shows that more women watch than men. {Tokra Barbie was supposed to lure more boys/young men to watch--don't know if it worked, but she just irritated the hell outta me!} Maybe that's why they have so little promotion. Considering they are on cable, they're pretty mild. Let's have more bad words ala The Sopranos, some nudity (male and female) and I'll bet there'll be promos all over the place!

Just my 2 cents :p

I like both Buffy and SG-1, they're very different though...

Buffy is so bad, even the old episodes of Lost In Space is better!

"Danger Will Robinson, Danger!":p

I love Stargate, but I would rather see it only last 5 seasons and go out as a quality show than resort to language and nudity to get publicity. DS9 was the least hyped of all the Star Treks and it was also IMO the best. Maybe this was because they didn't worry what TPTB thought and just made the show they wanted. Yes, MGM and Showtime should be doing more for SG1, but if the only way to get the backing is to compromise the integrity, then I'll happily buy the DVD's and watch 5 seasons of a quality show.

Also - Not into Roswell, Voyager or Dark Angel, but I love both Buffy and Angel.

O.K, that rant was probably about 4 cents worth.

Really? More women than men???
Wow.

Ysm's certainly right about one thing: "Tokra Barbie" was irritating. I don't think she's back in the 5th series though.
I think if her character had more depth she may have worked, but she simple (to me) came across as Male-Eye-Candy.

hmmm ... anatomically correct action figures ....? you just gotta love that guy... (reminds me on calvin and hobbes: "no, we WON'T have any anatomically correct snowmen in our garden!". sorry. drifting off.)

if I was an addagirl, I'd say: "yeah, all the promotion we can get for stargate! gimme covers! headlines! merchandise! promotours! ma shanks little boy in every talk show! sam doing some fashion modelling! christopher judge being interviewed for golf weekly"! but as I'm a baddagirl, I say: naw. just *like* to like a show that's a little bit *obsure* (don't get me wrong here, I mean it in a positive way). I don't *want* a hype like there is for fluffy the vampire nibbler. I don't *want" action figures - may they be anatomically correct or not ;) (they'd cheat in *that* department, anyway!!! ;) )

they tried with freya/anise - and you may burn me on a stake here now, but I actually liked the idea of her (ehm- both hers) fancying two different bloke. this could have brought up a very interesting dilemma, an occasion to see if the snakethingy would be able to step back in favor of the host ... I doubt it. but I think the idea didn't work for three reasons: a) it was impossible to like freya/anise. shoot me, but I've seen better actresses than miss angel. b) if we'd want bimbos, we'd bay-watch. c) most female fans *don't* want their heroes to go steady. there's more thrill to be kept in a limbo than having to watch jack, anise, baby and dog in a little house close to the base. yawn. boring. like real life. who wants to see real life, after all ...?

would you really want message boards flooded with 12 year old teenage girls bombing you with expressions like "hottie" "cutie" and "drool"?:dead: I already get the heebie jeebies about this now once in a while, there be whatever god before I ever see an rda pull out poster in a girlie magazine! I know it's bad, because they'd made a lot of money. as I said, I'm selfish ... no, I really don't want this. stargate is a great show, and it deserves to end in glory, with a big bang!

as for ds9: I love ds9. and I was able to get a very thorough and close view inside this business as far as this show is concerned. you know how often the scripts were changed at the very last second, sometimes minutes before the shooting started, because they were afraid "the masses" might object? I don't know about mgm, but paramount are *not* the most open minded company of them all. let's face it: at the end of the day, it all comes down to money. money made through commercials, for example. don't shy away the folks with the big wallet ...

uhuh. ranting again. I'll stop now. :)

That may have been interesting.

Who is it how played freya/anise? I didn't think she was just a bad actress, I just felt sorry that she wasn't really given any decent scenes and therefore she didn't come across to well.

A shower scene.... Well, DSD said he would....:rolly2: Can we get him Julie Christie and promote it?;)
As for the amatomicall correct Jack.... hope it is with the correct amount of grey hair!
Which Hair cut for Sam and Daniel dolls.....
Does T-Man have to have the chin dribble?

Yay....Buffy won and James Masters got best supporting actor...i can sleep easier now...:rolly2:

her lips bugged me

Kinda glad

I'm kinda glad Farscape and Buffy won, top two of my favourite shows.

But I don't agree with the Jeri Ryan thing, they should have given that to AT.

Tough decision with James Marsters and Michael Shanks, but MS has the slight edge. He should have gotten it.

Nothing against the X-files dude but Ben Browder should have gotten that. IMHO anyway (which doesn't count for much in the world of hollywood)

But then again, I heard that it was all one big popularity contest. So no hard loss, the show is great without the awards.

NO, James Masters deserved that award...how hard he has been working and how funny and great he's got since season 4...he sooooo badly deserved that award:D

I agree with TheDoc. The *idea* of Anise/Freya was interesting. The problem for me came in the casting. Sometimes I think the casting director of this show is casting for dates, not acting ability.

Maybe if Anise/Freya had been costumed as a serious character and not a refugee from babe-watch, and if she hadn't so blatently been written in simply for appealing to the XY-Chromosone set, it could have been successful.

If Michael couldn't win then I too am glad it was James Marsters. He rocks that show. Browder over Patrick and *anyone* over Jeri Ryan would've been better, but, hey. Whatchya gonna do?!

:laugh2:

right behind you here from a to z, shiloh (though, as far as I know, the responsible casting agent is a married female, but well ...) ;)

one of these days it might dawn to those in charge that the audience is not *as* daft as they sometimes think it is ... after all, according to studies (and sometimes I'm really wonder *who* spends money to get studies like these done!) the scifi/fantasy audience has the highest IQ of all. woah! *that's* what I call good news ...

but it *does* speak for them they got anise/freya off our chest when they realized we don't like her, and didn't try to force her on us for another season. :kotau:

the doc (off to count her chromosomes ...) :blpaw:

"Off our chest" I like that one! (snicker)
