Women in Startrek

Well, that situation probably will not change until it stops being a ratings-grabber. I know of several men who watched VOY just to see Jeri Ryan---TPTB were just capitalizing on that when VOY's ratings were dropping. (Hey, not all men are as enlightened as you & Markpud :D :D :D)

I have to say that sevens addition to Voyager improved the show, but mostly because she is an interesting character, not because of her "anti-grav units" (love that phrase :D)

What about 'Enterprise'? how do you think they're going to treat women? Afterall it's supposed to be pre-Kirk, so for the sake of the show, the women will have to go back to being yeoman's and wearing ridiculous outfits. But the creators might not be able to do that - how politicitally incorrect would that be??

How PC? Not very...plus what a step backward that would be after characters like Kira, B'Elanna, etc.

At least TOS has the excuse of being produced during the 60's----this shw could absolutely not get away with that kind of treatment of women.

I read (don't know if this has been discussed in the ENT forum, but probably) that the new series will have a lot more sexual situations than the previous ST series to attract viewers.

(From 'Trek Today')

<<The recent UPN promo already showed a kiss between Archer and an unknown alien woman. The Trek Zone Network posted a report about a promotion video sent out to UPN affiliates, containing a more detailed look at the kissing scene. Apparently, audiences will be able to see Archer's temper when dealing with the unknown woman. "You'd better be careful, I'm a lot bigger than you are," he says, before kissing her. >>

This is a still of the scene in question.
