I'd just go to see MS act. I'd like to see how much different his stage style is from his tv style.

Barding it

I've a fondness for Tempest having done lighting and special effects for that in college. There's a devilish Puck character in that one. Egads. Too many years ago for me to remember it right. But I remember the begining and that was always thrilling.

As for NEVER meeting the man? Oh perish the thought. I have faith that my life is long and the world is a smaller than it seams.

Hamlet, shmamlet, I'd like to see him in The Full Monty :D basically, because I'd like to see his ass..ets  :D

MS acting

I bet he'd be a great 'Puck' in 'Midsummer Night's Dream'. ;)

Of Course, I'd also like to see Jay Acovone on 'the Sopranos'.:p

I'd love to see him do 'Henry V' and, of course, as, the King.

Rowan, you're not likely to see him do Henry V.

At the BOBW con, he was asked how much he liked doing Shakespeare.

After talking about Hamlet, he said that the other one he had always wanted to do was Henry V. But, as he has got older, he feels that Henry V is now so anachronistic as to be of little worth, particularly in view of current world events. He feels that it is a play past its time and that he would not do it now.

I like your thinking ColJ! ;)

I personally feel that this is a rather unfortunate sort of comment to make. Shakespeare was never meant to move in line with the times. It stands alone. If we viewed every single piece of theatre in the light of whether it was anachronistic or not, or whether it was relevant to current world events, no theatre of any note would ever take place.

I feel that MS needs to engage his brain before putting his mouth into gear. Do we assume from his comment that if he chooses to do theatre, it will only be plays that are relevant to the times and not what he considers to be anachronistic?

Perhaps we should expect to see him in any future film that will be made about the onslaught on Afghanistan (a la Three Kings? Which was about the Gulf War or that film with Meg Ryan, which title escapes me for the moment).

Perhaps that will be 'current and relevant' enough for him.

No, no, no - *definitely* Hamlet :D He anguishes so beautifully ;)

Incidentally, as regards the way young ladies lust after stars, I think it's all down to good ol' Mother Nature, and her plan for the continuation of the human species:

The best way for men to pass on their genes is to father as many children as possible so that some of them will survive, regardless of whether he looks after them or not.

As women have a much more limited chance of passing on their genes, they have to be a *lot* more choosy about whose DNA they're prepared to accept. As Kissinger once said, "Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac." Actors take on the roles of powerful individuals, and the charisma rubs off...

So you know who to blame when the hormones go into overdrive! :smiliea:

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut

Seeing as this thread started out as talking about family, I was just wondering... as you do.. whether our Mr Shanks was distantly related to the famous old family Shanks in England, those fine purveyors of fine bathroom porcelain for many a generation????

The things you think about when you are contemplating the meaning of life!!!!!!!!!
