Um....... not strictly true. Even in the military, legal separations are recognised and Sam would only be thought of as the pursuer if she was the reason for the separation in the first place, which of course she couldn't have been, since the separation happened before she and Jack met each other.
Guys, the military have regulations on such things for a reason, but even THEY wouldn't penalise Sam for Jack's separation from his wife. The military would have been kept inthe loop about events which effect their military personnel and they would know for sure that Sam was not responsible.
Sky.... you're inferring here that as long as Jack remained married the military would be against him having another relationship which is simply not true. If that were true then half of the US and the British military would be skulking round corners and meeting in anonymous motel rooms to carry on their current relationships!
The thing that keeps them apart is the fact that they are in the same command team. He is her CO and she is his subordinate. It is considered bad form for the welfare of the whole team if they conduct an intimate and personal relationship. It undermines HIS authority as a commanding officer and undermines her ability to be an effective member of the team. This is why fraternisation is frowned upon and husband and wife couples where both are military are generally separated into different units. Where possible the same base, but different units within the base.
If Jack and his wife are separated you can bet your bottom dollar that it will have been with military sanction and therefore whatever he did with Sam or anyone else for that matter would most certainly NOT be considered adultery.
You're getting religion mixed up with military regulations here. I know the military act like god, but trust me..... they ain't. Neither are marriages ordained by god. They are primarily legal contracts. The church dragged the god thing into it as a method of controlling the population. A couple of centuries ago only the rich could afford to actually marry legally. Everyone else jumped the broomstick. Having a legal marriage contract drawn up cost money that the average Joe in the street simply could not afford. Read your history books..... Everything was a little different to now, even a century ago.
