I don't get to watch the show very often, but what are the standard issue small arms of SG-1? I've seen MP-5's and I believe an M-9 Beretta or two. Anthing else? Also, was there ever a time that they had to wear PASGT vests in addition to the helmet?

Small arms -4th season info!!!

Currently the team is carrying [Febricque Nationale] FN P-90's [4th season]are are must of the actualy Special Operations teams military wide. The standard Mil Issue sidearm, the Beretta M-9 9mm.

Wheve had an atchenson repeating shotgun pop up a couple of time. A sweet weapon. And it looks like most of the SF's in the gateroom are still fighting with M-16 A1 and A-2's.

They don't vest nearly as often an I would like sometimes, but a vest won't do diddly to a staff blast except melt the Kelvar fibers to the body underneath it and still let the heat energy pass through. Same with arrows, knives and the like. Unless you wear the optional steel shank plates, they're not worth much against sharp pointy objects. And with them, you loos a lot of mobility and gain weight.

K-Pots are still in fashion in some of the episodes. The Blackhawk tac vest is the overvest of choice currently.

Any opinions expressed are clearly my own and reflect having to deal with the US Army for 20+ years.

Your Milage May Very. ;)

Er, not a weapons person, but seasons 1-3 the team sported HK MP-5's, or was that HK MP-5s? Anyways, as Rown said, seasons 4 & 5 show them sporting P-90s. Beretta's as side arms as usual.

Machine Pistols

Most right, Morrigan, they're carring Heckler and Kock MP-5's using a 30 round magizine of 9mm rounds. The nice thing with an MP-5 is it uses the same rounds as the Beretta 9mm Mil Issue M-9 sidearm.

Having a chance to fire both, they both have their pluses and minuses, but I wouldn't have minded the Army giving me either one during the Gulf. The beat the hell out of an M-16 for reliability and easy of fire.

And you feel pretty lonely with just an M-9 on your hip...
:(

Exposed

You'bet'cha. One good sized man, one little bittle M-9 with a 'combat load' [one in the 'pipe' and 15 in the magizine]. You can empty the sucker pretty fast when the 'mood' is upon you, but it still doesn't feel like much tp have between you and the rest of the nasty world.

Question:

What were they using on the Replicators in Enemies? I know someone told me before, but it has completely slipped my mind.

that's it for a M-9? 16 shots? I'm writing that down.

I had been thinking 9-10 or 12-13 based on what I learned watching the X-Files, but I think it's a different gun...

Hmmm. A new game for Serpents Grasp ep. How many shots did Daniel take in the scene with the two handguns... :D

Better be less than 30 'cause Jack had two shots for Skarra from one of the guns.

COLOR=crimson]Danny, Exposed???!?[/COLOR] Sorry, i think i came in at the wrong time of the conversation there...
lol:alienooh:

How about the new Objective Individual Combat Weapon? Seems tailor made for sci-fi (since no one else seems to like it). 20MM airburst would seem to be able to keep a few heads down (or perforated). If the whole thing flops, they could send a few SG-1's way.

The M9, 9 millimeter pistol is the standard issue sidearm for all SGC team members. It is a semi-automatic, magazine-fed, recoil-operated, double- action, hand-held pistol chambered for 9mm ammunition.

Length: 217mm (8.54")
Weight (Empty): .95kg (2.09 lbs)
Muzzle Velocity: 390mps (1280FPS)
Max Effect Range: 50 meters
Magazine Capacity: 15 rounds

The weapon against the replicators was the Spas-12 me thinks.

"Bug Guns"

Yep, they were Spas-12's.

Teal'c... did we ever serve together... ;)

here' some info and a pic i found in a computer game:
FN P.90: SMG - 5.7x28mm - Belgium - 900 RPM - The P90 was designed as a Personal
Defense Weapon (PDW): a compact, yet powerful weapon for heavy weapons crews, radio
operators, vehicles crews, etc. The 5.7mm FN cartridge has amazing armor penetration, yet
recoils less than a 9x19mm pistol cartridge. The unconventional nature of the design has
hampered its commercial success.

and the spas-12:

Franchi SPAS-12: Assault Shotgun - 12 Gauge (Tungsten Alloy Buckshot) - Italy - Selectable Pump/Semi-Automatic - The SPAS-12 is a rather unique design offering the option of either
semi-automatic or pump action, depending on the power level of the loads deployed. While it looks quite formidable, the SPAS-12 is surprisingly fragile due to its complex design.

if anyone wants a cool 3D pic of a gun i have lots so ask away!

[part way down the page]
=================================
Ritter indicated that some unidentified US special operations units are interested in FN's new 5.7mm Weapon System, which utilizes a range of 5.7x28mm cartridges, proposed as a replacement for the existing 9mm parabellum cartridge. FN sources credit the 5.7mm round with higher hit probability, penetration of military body armor and personnel incapacitation than the 9mm round. Moreover, the new cartridge has lighter weight and lower recoil than the century-old 9mm.

The 5.7mm cartridge has successfully completed NATO testing and a new STANAG should be issued for the caliber by the end of 1997.

In the meantime, the first member of the 5.7mm system, the P-90 submachine gun, has already been sold to 14 countries, primarily destined for special operations and anti-terrorist units. The expanding market has prompted FN to propose a range of new P-90 accessories, including visible or infrared laser aiming systems integrated into the receiver, sound suppressors (silencers), external accessory rail, tactical operations visible light and a sight rail to affix optical day or night sights.

[nice article compairing the H&K MP-5 and the FN P-90. top 2/3rds only...]

This page has good graphics so I'm not gonna even try to quote parts of the article here.

;)

fraid the bottom link didn't work rowan :(

I woz readin' the janes gun recognition guide and in it they had info about a supressed P90: the FN P90SD. Seems they already have one but i could be wrong. i'll see if i have a pic.

I am interested in the MP5, and all the varients MP5K (short), MP5SD etc. Heckler and Koch make lots of guns including the G3 and handguns. Rowan, do u know if they make the desert eagle or the USP. i think they make one but can't remember which.

Not sure why you had problems with the link. I just tried it. You might have to 'cut and paste'. Browsers get cranky sometimes.

Desert Eagle:
================================
http://www.zvis.com/dep.shtml will give you a wealth of facts about the Magnium Research 'Desert Eagle' side arm, both the 44 cal and the 50 cal.

Having fired both [my husband carried a 50 for awhile] I found it 'way too big for my hand and more gun that I wanted to handle. But I've got fairly small hands [long fingers, but small palm print] and had trouble with the mil issue Colt Government model 45cal. Was please when the service went to the Berette M-9 9mm as *that* I can use much more effectively. {I have a Beretta Commander as my personal side arm}.

Just a general info page.

As I mentioned, at least from personal experience, it's more gun than I want in my hand unless I worked up to it. I'm not a small woman [5'8" and 160 now... 145 in the Army] and have been shooting in one form or another since I was 3 [around 45+ years ago] and the thing just wreakes havoc on my wrist and shoulder.

I figure if a 9mm with a 'combat load' [high capacity mag with one in the 'pipe' and 15 in the mag] plus two back up HC mags doesn't do it in a 'situation', I'm toast.

But, of course, YMMV. ;)
