Ok, i want everyones views on pairings in the SGC.

for example, i have been going on the Heliopolis Fanfic site for quite some time now and most people on there seem to think:

1) Sam-Jack

2)Daniel-Doc.Fraiser

Views Please! (and these are romantic relationships just in case you're wondering)

I don't think any of them should be 'paired'. It's predictable and boring as far as I am concerned!!

 ;)

But that's just me....... I like my intelligent shows to be intelligent, if I wanted to watch a soap opera filled with interpersonal relationships, I'd go for one of those cheesy US shows where everyone is sleeping or pairing up with everyone else.

jack - sam, yes:rolly2:, but puuuurrrlease not doc frasier- daniel, dat's just :dead:

ya, dat's a gud point, cuz 2 many pairings r bad 2, how unlikely wud it b that all the peeps that work 2gether just happen 2 b paired off as well?

Got the point. but i will carry on to see what other people think.

i think Sam-Jack is a good one cos they *Confessed* their feeling in the just-past series.
Daniel-Doc.Fraiser is a maybe.

I must say I have to agree with Anni on this one:D

I don't really want to see any of the main cast pair off with any of the others.
I do like the whole Sam and Jack thing but for me its only interesting because of the whole "we have admited our feelings about each other but can't do anything about it"
I think it makes a better story then just having them together...

And like Anni has said if we wanted to watch romance then we would watch a soap opera....

As for Daniel and the Doc...oh please!!!:dead: ;)

At some point I got really tired of that angle while watching XF, I'm ready for a few more twists thrown in to keep it from becoming so idiotic at that show got to be. But, remember I've still got to see most of season four when I make this statement...

I've seen Tangent. Sam and Jack have a comfort of rules of conduct to hang on to... and Jack trusts Sam to the brink of apoxia <sp?> so that's something!

Sam/Jack definately but as I have said b4, half the fun of watching is 2 c if sumthing is gonna happen. Once they start going out/get engaged/get married etc. it becomes less interesting. For now I'm happy just 2 c the UST between these 2 characters and if they get them 2gether then it should b at the end of the series or in the film, whichever is last. However if they drag it on for 2 long then it will become boring like XF did so I think that they should wrap the series up after 6 seasons and another movie. If u quit while ur ahead then people will remember u and fans will always b left wanting more!

And also I think that there is a possibility that the Danny/Janet thing could work but that isn't a main 1.

I couldn't agree more! Whenever the writers pair up the main characters, the show goes to the dogs. Witness Farscape. They are constantly looking for each other to have sex, just finished having sex or just starting to have sex. It's too easy. Just throw in a sex/love scene when there's nothing else interesting to hold our attention. :dead:

So no to Sam/Jack and no to Sam/Daniel and Jack/Janet, Daniel/Janet or Janet/Teal'q. Hopefully, they will each find someone else.

Besides, I don't want to imagine Jack kissing anyone else but me! I'm very possessive that way.:kisses:

hey, you left out sam/teal'c....

anyway, pairing them up in fic is fine...every writer creates their own little world anyway...but on the show...nahah.
ust (unresolved sexual tension) is fun...two characters arguing about who should cook dinner or who left hair in the sink...that's real life and not why i watch tv.

anyone else on here old enough to remember moonlighting?
consummating the relationship is what killed the show.

first - i agree w/ Anni and peachy -- don't pair anyone on the show - leave that to the fanfic (tho fanfic kinda goes overboard w/ the 'ship thing too -- i get tired of reading the same story over and over)

and why the shows go 'to the dogs' after the characters are paired is b/c the writers 'slack off' and figure - 'well, we've got 'em together, now what? oh yeah -- they can have sex for the entire hour!' that's more boring than most anything else they could come up w/ --- ugh --

keep the writing interesting -- keep the UST - it's more exciting -- 'tension' of any kind is more fun that quick resolution --- not to mention, UST has this interesting way of becoming humerous if written correctly ----

UST

I agree completely Skydiver and HII. I 'write' a variety - from gen through 'ship' to slash, but I seldom have written a piece that has gotten 'overt' vrs 'covert' in it's 'actions'. [I tend to stay 'in the head' and not 'in the bed' as it were.]

To me a 'ship' story is one built around the aspects of a relationship... to me, gender non-specific. I'm seen some pretty deep relationsips build in the military between guys and it's never turned sexual. Same with male/female.

But I'm the first to admit I think I'm almost the only writer out here who uses that deffinition for ship. If the writers took things past the edges they've already skirted, I think the show would go down in flames. Tension hightens drama and when you've only got 44 minutes to get an entire plot line across, you can't waste a second.

And since you just can't get anyone to believe 22 episodes of 'ship' [except those addicted to soap operas], you'd shoot yourself in the foot if you even tried.

[No offense to 'Dr. Jeff Weber, Neurosurgeon' when he was on 'General Hospital', but the idea of RDA in a soap opera just twitches me sometimes...]

Hiya,
I'm sorry I didn't get here earlier, but I agree with the Sam & Jack pairing, coz it already exists.
But Daniel & Janet...oh please!...maybe Teal'c & Janet...maybe ;)

And I've got to agree with Anni and everyone else, in that as soon scifi shows start concentrating on character relationships, the scifi bit leaves and it becomes just another soap. :(

Well ... whatta ya know...

I got the thing to work *and* it fits.

Cool.

This avatar in *no* way makes any specific commentary about ASci-Fi or the rest of the forums. Just my personal taste in men...

ditto to the above but if we want to be fair to every orentation around, what about Sam/Janet? They'd be cute but absolutely rediclous to watch on the show do girl thangs. Women here seem to be hetero and hookled on J and D, but let's be PC as it were...

:D Welcome my first post of the morning after a night of shippy angst J and D fic writing...

Oh, this has nothing to do with orientation, more with the fact I got my graphics program to work. If someone finds the fact I've got two guys in my avatar offensive, I'll certainly consider taking it fown.

At least it's a lot more subtle than some of the trails of droll left around this place... ;)

No! Keep it! I like looking at it! :rain: Makes mine absoulutly boring!

I like your avatar Rowan! I don't find it offensive, nor did i even consider you meant anything 'slash' by it --- you're not the only person w/ 2 men on your avatar --- and many of the '2 man' avatars i've seen are exactly the 2 you have ----

fic writing -- ya know - i don't think i've ever 'really' written a 'shipper' fic for any of the numerous shows that i write fic for - why? b/c it's boring and it's been done to death -- one show i was trying to read fic for, i had to stop after the 3rd story - they were all the same -- oh - i take that back - i read 4 - one was really good - it was a parody AND it was funny!

have a question tho -- why does everyone feel the need to write the same story? i actually stopped reading much fanfic b/c they were all the same --- it got boring - like watching 100 soap operas -- didn't matter who the characters were - they were all sleeping w/ everyone else ---

i've scribbled 'snippets' for what could become 'shipper' fic - but i've never finished a fic that was 'shippy' -- the closest might be "Toronto Jarod" where Jarod and MP 'fake' a scene so they can talk 'undetected' - but that's about it ---

my stories are more 'cannon' related - there's a plot and ppl don't have to have sex for the plot to move -- unless it is actually part of the story - sex is completely irrelevant -- IMO

so - my opinion still stands that going 'shippy' on Stargate (beyond what they've already done) would be a bad idea - b/c doing so seems to give the writing staff an excuse to slack off and write sorry scripts --

ooh -- just thought of a really great 'ship example that was never overtly stated but worked brilliantly --- ever watch Law & Order? well, there is still debate, to this day - 6yrs later - that Claire Kincaide and Jack McCoy had an affair -- many say 'yes they did', many say 'no they didn't' -- no one really knows for sure ('cept maybe Dick Wolf and he ain't talkin') i know that Jill Hennessy knew nothing about it, but i've read that Sam Waterston DID know -- so, the writers kinda played w/ it a bit (very subtly - you could barely tell) -- and it worked beautifully --- the 'ship part was left to the fans and fic writers --- (the Jack/Claire thing has been done to death to - but not to the extent of all the other shows i've read fic for) --- but - on a show like L&O - 'personal' lives are kind of left out of the plot - b/c the show has a different focus -

okay -- this post was a lot longer than i had initially intended --- so - if you're still reading -- thnx ----

i'll go back to what i was doing b4 i started typing this now -------
