Spirited Away

If you love this then you should definitely check out Nausiccaa Valley of the Wind, it was Miyazaki's first proper feature film except for Castle of Cagliostro, it's amazing and beautiful. There's lots of similarities with Princess Mononoke-the nature theme etc.

Another amazing film thats not Miyazaki but still Studio Ghibli is Grave of fireflies-oh my god i cried so much when i saw this film.
Its not as fantastical as Spirited Away, its based on the 2WW but the storyline is so moving...i only cried more watching Hotel Rwanda.
Definitely one not to miss!

I would describe Grave of the Fireflies as one you ought to see, but possibly just the once.
I had it for a number of years before watching it because I knew it would be a difficult film to watch. When I finally watched it I saw it through to the end because it felt the right thing to do, but I doubt I could watch it again.
A remarkable film, but goodness me it's heartbreaking to watch.

My eldest daughter complains that she was scarred watching this - and that it was the scariest film she'd watched. Until Coraline. :)

Hopefully you can keep exposing her to Ghibli films. Try Arriety as that's pretty much devoid of scary things; or you could try Totoro. Nausicaa would also be worth showing (and seriously I wish he'd do another with the same style/focus/concept as Nusicaa).

I'd say the same. I've got it on DVD, watched it once and chances are I won't watch it again for many many more years. A really great and powerful film; but very sad to watch. I still recommend people to see it, its a really great bit of animated cinema and a very good show of how powerful and emotional story writing can be.
