Fail Safe

Hello all,
does anyone else besides me think that Fail Safe is going to kick large amounts of buttocks? I know the plot has been done a million times before in movies and (bad) TV mini-series', but I just think it'll be great seeing Sg-1 do it! What do you think?

Er... actually no.... I think, as you said, the plot is hackneyed and stale. SG1 save the planet yet again.... Oh come on guys...jeez.

However what I do feel is that if Hollywood and TV industry don't stop making stupid films and shows about what could be a REAL threat to this planet any work that real scientists do towards educating governments and the public will be for nothing. the Scientific community are having a hard enough time as it is convincing the governments of the earth that this is a serious issue as it is, without the dubious intervention of Hollywood.

Because, when it does happen, we'll all just thinks its a cheesy film script. We are all so de-sensitised to things like danger, violence and horror these days. Kids can't seem to tell the difference between a shoot em up film full of gratuitous violence and a factual newscast of the real thing itself.

All the entertainment industry are doing is to make us complacent about something that is a distinct possibility at some stage.

And I strongly disagree with that.

I think the Stargate production team need to be tied to an asteroid which is heading towards a planet for revisiting this one.

And the planet should preferably not be earth!!!

 :(

ok anni, are you sitting down? cause i'm sorta agreeing with you. i mean the pic i've seen is a teltac on the asteroid with two spacesuited folks seemingly planting a bomb on a FRED...ok now all together....ARMAGEDDON REMAKE!!!!

i mean i'm sure i'll enjoy it and maybe there's more to it but...

hey, looking on the bright side, it's a new eps....

I do feel like I have been given ABC gum with this episode from the spoilers and pictures ... hopefully I will be wrong! If not... HEY ANNI, who we gonna wipe out? HEY, you forgot DEEP IMPACT (wtih Morgan Freeman as the PRESIDENT) , Armegeddon and so many many others.... Asteroids.... When Earth Collides etc...

Come on guys, you're missing out on all of the wonderful possibilities of this episode! Such as... when the asteroid is blown up, a small chunk of it breaks off and lands on top of Kinsey's house. They could make THAT into a movie, cause I'd pay ten bucks to see it!

See, that's the spirit, guys! Maybe it can even collect Col. Simmons on the way...

I do agree with the hacking of the idea to death, but remember all those movies & shows came as a result of the real fear experienced by the real near miss we had with...I can't remeber if it was an astaroid or huge metior or even a comet that had strayed pretty close a few year ago..well a bit more I think I was 16 or 17 at the time (now 24...just for time reference).

Yes, and right around that time they had the pictures of the asteroids hitting Juipter? They were also focusing on mass extinctions cause by asteroids... part of the Alverez theory....

Interesting how our perceptions change when the real world intrudes on fantasy.

We all love the idea of mass extinction... just as long as we are not a part of it. Speculation is fantasy so the writers write... I just hope that the writers give us a fresh view.... (Why do I feel I am sitting at the colosseum?)

5.15 Fail Safe

I did like this one....it was an ok one...at least the whole team were together and not on Earth for a change...(they went through it..but not on it)

A little predicable in places..like when O'Neill had to cut the wires ect..

Thought the sceans with Gen. Hammond were sweet..:D

Overall a good one...what do you guys think!?!

SG-1 saved the Earth again... that says it all... I'm almost beginning to agree with Anni about the stale and repetitve storylines :( but not quite!

Lots of the usual Jack humour... "I've seen this film... it hits Paris!"

The fact that it wasn't an asteroid but actually a Goa'uld trick, actually made it all more believable. And they should have the proof that the Asgard need now.

apart from the obviuos question of sumone who won't see this eppie for a month or so (wot the hey happened?) i got another question - in wot film does the asteriod hit Paris? and if it's AMARGEDDON, i just want y'all to kno i haven't seen it!!!!

I think you're being a little harsh. One of the strengths of the series has been, I reckon, its ability to take a cliche and do something different. An asteroid, a bomb, a countdown... we've seen all of these a million times before. However, the asteroid was never artificial, the bomb never set by the good guys, the wires never the some colour through oversight...

Besides, I'm just happy to see an off-earth episode again. I was beginning to think they'd run out of money.

Oh, Jaxie: if you still haven't seen Armageddon, avoid it at all costs. It's hard to imagine a worse movie. I pray, in fact, that I never imagine a worse movie.

so, we've established that i should neva see Amargeddon. okay

lets stick with Fail Safe shall.
Any shippy bits?
Whats with the bomb your talking about?
So how do they find out about this meaty asteroid?

THROW ME A BONE PPL, I JUST FOUND OUT I HAFTA WAIT ANOTHER FRICKIN MONTH UNTIL PROVING GROUND...I'M GOING INTO STARGATE WITHDRAWAL!!!!

When Jack Said 'I've seen this movie' I sat there saying, yeah - me too ! and I was preparing myself for this to be a bit of a crap episode, but then it started to improve and the fact that the asteroid was created by the Goul'd as a sneaky way of trying to get around the protected planets treaty helped a lot there.

OK, there were some cliches (and we all know how we feel about those) but it had its moments. Loved the zapping through the earth bit.

And I agree wholeheartedly about Armageddon - didn't like it at all. Best thing about it was the Aerosmith soundtrack !. Now I love disaster movies - next to sci fi they are my fave, but of the two disaster movies that year - Armageddon and Deep Impact - I reckon Deep Impact was far superior

I thought overall this was a pretty good solid ep. Yeah, it was a little cliche but I agree that they did do some pretty different things with it.

I think it would have been good if we could get a bit more on the backstory. It would have alowed the story to piece together more easily instead of being thrown together. Like Jack and Danny crashing the Teltak into the Tok'Ra home world. What was up with that? And why are the Tok'Ra on the run again?

It was excellent to see the whole team together again!!!
I especially enjoyed the repetitive:
"I'm confident"
"Me too"
"As am I"

Jack had some good humourous lines as always. The scen with the guys who retrofitted the Death Glider was funny. It was cute how Danny fell asleep on the MALP. Though I still don't think we're seeing enough of Danny.

Jaxie - there were a few little scenes between S/J. Nothing overly shippy. She gets zapped by some crystals and he touches her arm and stuff to see that she's okay, then later he touches her waist. But nothing overly shippy. There was this one scene where she's looking over his shoulder that was kinda cute though.

THANK YOU altho you may not believe it, that will keep me going for a while:rolly2:
